    Talking Summit Point Convoy!

Time to start planning the drive down since Summit Point is next Friday! I'm repeating what we did last year and telling all the Delaware Valley SVTOA members and anyone else that wants, to meet at the Delaware House on Route 95 south of Wilmington, Delaware. We will meet Friday morning at 10:30 AM to pull out at 11AM sharp! Of course we will be stopping in Towson, Maryland for lunch at Jamie's fave, Hooters! From there we will drive to the hotel for check in. Anyone interested in joining us should post here or email herbsharp@dvsvtoa.com.

Hope to see you next week!

What hotel is everyone staying at?
This will be my first event and my meet up with your convoy at some point.
    Thanks

Sorry to Hijack the thread, but I have a few questions as I have never done this before.
If you bring a guest, what do they do while your at the track?
    Can they watch?
What about in class training? Is there any and for how long?
Do most of you drive there in your cars or trailer (just in case )?

Sorry for the stupid questions, I'm excited about going, but want to bring someone.
    Thanks for the help.
    Jay

    Hi Tucker!

No worries, last year was my first time on the track and I had a whole lotta questions too. Guests can watch from a safe vantage point. I have been on Summit Point's other two tracks (the Shenandoah Circuit is new) and there are various vantage points from which spectators (and those who are in other run groups) can view the fun. I know the Shendoah Circuit has a bridge over the track which should be a prime viewing location. Your guest will not be able to ride with you on the track except during the lunch time parade laps which are speed limited.

There is a mandatory driver's meeting first thing in the morning both days and some classroom instruction with the lead instructor, Jeff Lacina. Jeff will discuss track etiquette, flags, proper line through a turn and other necessary skills. Most of the instruction is handled by the instructors sitting next to you in your car. As a novice, you will have an instructor ride with you. The instructors are the hardest working men and women on the track, yet they were willing to spend extra time with students. One even volunteered to sit down a diagram some of the turns in the dirt to help explain the proper setup and line. You are there to learn, so ask the Instructors anything and everything you want to know. I even asked an instructor drive my car for several laps (thanks Dell!!) to show me what the car was capable of when driven by an accomplished driver. It was an eye opening experience.

Last year it appeared that most people drove their cars. That was especially true when you realized that several of the trailored cars belonged to instructors rather than students. As a recent first timer, I drove my car to the track, learned as much as I could, had a hell of a good time, met some really great people.... and drove home. I intend to do the same thing this year.

We'll see you on the track!!

    Rick
