You'll likely get a split in replies to this question.

Some will say the short-ram is the way to go. It is cheaper, definetly an improvement over stock, and is safe, yet can suffer from heat-soak, hindering your performance gain.

Others will say the cold-air is the way to go. It's more expensive, 'can' make more power by sucking truly cold-air, but many are scared of sucking water.

I have no problems driving in the rain. The filter is getting really dirty, really quick though.

    Imo

    I have a Steeda Short-ram.
The car definitely still does suffer from heat soak.
Otherwise, when she's cool, performance is superior to the stock box with a K&N; albeit slightly.

Ultimately, I'm hoping to replace my hood someday: carbon fibre with a nice custom intake for the short ram. That should be the perfect set-up shy of forced-induction.

I've yet to hear of anyone's "check engine" light coming on with this part; can all other options boast that?

    Good luck with your decision.

Yeah, K&N Typhoon Kit made my light come on. I don't how many times I've typed this in threads, but I still have it and can't send it back.

If I had to guess, I would think it's the distance of the MAF from the TB.

It shouldnt be that because my cobra had the mass air relocated outside of the fender and it never had a problem but that could be due to the computer program also.

I've got the AEM cold air. It's a very beautiful kit. Well designed, well made.

I have heard of people getting cel with this intake as well... seems it tends to run a bit rich... nothing a custom diablo tune won't fix...
