Exclamation My clutch is screaming at me!

Ok, I've asked a bunch of people and have done a little research online as well. When my car is cold, if I have the clutch out, it makes a terrible grinding noise.

It's yelling at me! I haven't done anything to it! The only problem is, the Ford dealer that's closest, McCoy Mills in Fullerton, Ca is just far enough away that my car warms up and the sound goes away. It happens other times as well, even warm, but it is its loudest when I start it up in the morning/when it's cold.

Any word on it? I asked my father, seeing as I'm 19, and he says if it's a dual-disc clutch, it might be the plate dividing the discs. I have no idea!

call the 800 come rescue me number and tell them the tranny is making noise, when you started it...

They will send a tow truck to bring it to a dealer withing 50 miles ( I think it 50) anyway... Tell them you feel unsafe driving it to the dealer! Just make sure it's gonna do it when it arrives there!

It's the road side assistance number! SHould have a sticker in the glove box, or maybe on the drivers window!

I'd tell them i'm on my way have my loaner ready and for them to keep the car overnight. When they start it up in the morning they'll get the full effect and fix it may take 2, 3 days till they get the parts but you'll already have the loaner so you know. By the way the whole I don't feel safe driveing the car thing ~~~Good Touch~~~

yeah... 35+ days of shop time on my car... I've learned to speak the "fix my F*****g car" lingo!!!

Kinda funny how a tiny additonal few words makes all the difference... Unsafe, scared, then my favorite... I'll call SVT and see what they have to say about it.... <---- has worked a few times for me...

This sounds like the standard FlyWheel issue, have the dealer replace it. i had mine done at Fairway Ford in Fullerton, they did it before i even knew what the issue was all i heard was a rattling under the car. suposidly SVT has an Updated Flywheel and Clutch because of this.. Which my car also needs again because the newer flywheel is going out again.

Hold on here. The original post said "grinding noise". Now I see the "rattle" is caused by a bad flywheel. I have the rattle coming from my engine bay at about 2000 rpms, but I just thought it was the cat heat shield coming loose. I have no grinding sound.
-ReverendFocus. Can you confirm a "grind" or a "rattle"?

    svt170 - the rattle/buzz @ 2K rpm is probably the shield.

Not sure about the clutch/flywheel noise.

i have a similar problem, especially when i'm just feathering the clutch, it sounds like the sound of STEEL Grinding together, but then it goes away after a second, but then almost everytime i go in reverse it does that, not so much when i'm going forward though! is it a cluth/flywheel problem? anyone?

FYI, when I spoke with K&N about the oil filter for our cars today, I asked about the Clutch/Flywheel repair TSB...

According to them, they are researching a replacement clutch/flywheel solution however due to this being an isolated problem and hasn't become widespread they aren't going for making it a TSB repalcement for all SVTF's. Basically there havn't been enough problems with the tranny's yet to be of major concern.

Moral of the story is to get on the phone to 1-800-ford-svt if your having these problems... The more issues they know of the more likely it will benifit everyone by having a new part available instead of an original part replacement on cars with these problems.
