    T45 tranny hard to shift

A couple months ago my tranny started getting real hard to shift and get into first at a stop. I changed the fluid to GM Syncromesh which helped for a while but it\'s getting worse all the time. Anyone else having this problem?

    WELCOME!!!

Looks like you\'re the first one to venture into our new public forums...!

If you downshift alot, especially while at speed, that can be kind of hard on the synchros, which will cause difficult downshifts. You might have a worn synchro. This is fairly common. The blocker ring on that gear\'s shaft may be worn out...

There may very well be a TSB on this if I remember right. Two of our SVTOA members had this problem, one the day before the Drag event and one during the Drag event, both are Ford techs, and I believe they said the synchos, especially 1st, are prone to premature failure. I will check into it at our second Drag event tomorrow.

I was told that there is a TSB issued for early build transmissions on the 01\'s for the synchros.

    Hope it helps.

    I Had This Problem

And Ford fixed it as I was smack in the middle of the build date for this issue. I had them throw the Pro 5.0 at the same time since everyhting was already apart.

    The car shift nice now......

Snakerider, My third gear synchro went out on me at 32K miles. The dealer replaced the tranny for me -- no cost. I understand that SVT replaces the whole tranny rather than simply fixing the synchro. Having to do the whole thing over again, I think I would have tried to negotiate a T-56, with me paying the difference between the T-45 and the T-56. Now that the T-56 is a standard tranny for the '03 they have a Ford part no. for it and that could help. Anyway, in talking about this with my service manager, we agreed we would try to get a T-56 if the tranny went out again.

Well my T45 is in pieces right now at the Ford dealer. It has been grinding and hard to get into gear for over a year. It finally got to the point where it would jump out of second on down shifts and they took it apart. They are doing a complete overhaul with some updated parts, and Ford is paying for it. I have the ESP until 2007 or 60k miles and I only have 20k on it now.

Well got the car back. It always seems to take forever for the dealers to get the work done but it sure is nice having a tranny that shifts like it is supposed to. It has never shifted this good since day one. My service writter convinced me to have tham overhaul it as to replacing it because he had a really good mechanic that he said could make it better than new. Now I have to believe him and I'm glad I took his advice.

Well it shifted nice for a while. Third gear started getting a vibration and was getting real notchey again. Last Saturday third and fourth gear went on vacation again. So I fixed it. Called D&D Performance and ordered a T56 6-Speed
Put it in Friday and made it to the AZ SVTOA show & shine Saturday morning.

This is the ultimate upgrade for the 99 Cobra. This should have been in there from the start. It works right into the tall gears this car needs. 1st through 4th are a much closer ratio so it stays in the power range of the motor. And to top it off I can now go to 4.56s and still be able to cruise the highways.

Can't wait to get back to the strip and work my way into the 12's.

Does anyone knows the TSB #? I'm new in this forum. I have a 01 Snake with the same problem getting hard to shift. I want to know if I could refer to the TSB when talking to my tech.

This is the only TSB I found listed for the 01 Cobra for shifting problems. I just had to keep going back to the dealer over and over to get them to finally work on it. And after all that it just went out again. I finally got tired of complaining and just put the T56 in it.

I guys I recently bought a Mint 99 stock Cobra. I checked with a local dealer to see when the"fix" was performed, but thier records only go back 180 days. They told me there were no open recalls....

I'm reading this thread and thinking to myself that I've read it before. I got to start reading the date in the first post....

I have 44.5K on my original trans and clutch. At around 13K I put a Steeda Triax in. The trans still works great.

    Pizzano,

You need a kit. It's the best way from what I've heard. There are several shops that sell a kit. Try one of the Mustang magazines for ads and such. I think '99 Venom used D&D as stated above in his post.

    Good luck,

    MK
