the rsx type s is competition for sure. with those new 0-60 speeds 6.9 seconds, i think the focus should be able to take on an rsx type s

RSX is in a whole different class from the SVTF. In SCCA or otherwise. I mean that doesn't stop anyone from racing one, but they were never devleoped to be direct competitors.

RSX Type-S versus SVT Focus? I suppose that the transmission choice in the RSX would make all the difference in that competition. I forget, though, just how much DOES an RSX weigh? That has a lot of bearing.

Speaking of weight, I've now seen two different weights given by Ford for the SVTF. Originally, it was 2,750 lbs. Someone posted a link to SVT.Ford.com to the specs for the SVTF, and it now reads 2600-something lbs. A hundred pounds makes a significant difference. I just found that interesting.

As for the Nissan, just which one ARE we talking about? The glitter has worn off the Sentra SE-R Spec-V, as it's apparently just NOT a handling car, and Nissan overrated the bhp before its release. That's the car that was SUPPOSED to be our big competitor, especially in autoX. Anything else I've seen from Nissan has either been in a whole different category, or isn't even worth considering.

The RSX is about 50 lbs. or so heavier than the SVTF, not a huge difference.

My optioned-out '02 SVTF, sans the back seat, weighed 2725 lbs, so there is NO way a stock(or mostly stock) SVTF will weigh 2600 lbs. Musta been a misprint.

From a market and consumer standpoint, the SVTF and RSX are are cross shopped a lot. Comparably equipped, you will pay about $5K more for and RSX-S over an SVTF. Many of the standard features in the SVTF are either optional, or not even available, in the RSX-S. The RSX-S may have a slight performance advantage, but the SVTF is better package for the $$, IMO.

Well, the weight issue apparently Is some sort of misprint or something. Or, at least, something isn't being fully disclosed. Anyhow, if you go to www.svt.ford.com and click on FOCUS, then VEHICLE SPECS, it'll tell you the following curb weights:
    2,593 lbs- 3dr
    2,675 lbs- 5dr

I think we need to contact the folks at SVT and find-out just what the heck is going-on. I'm willing to be there is a vast discrepancy between a bare-bones base SVTF 3-dr and a packed-to-the-gills 5-dr. Regardless, though, 2,750 minus 2,593 equals 167. That's a LOT of weight.

As for the 350Z, it isn't even the same ballpark as the SVTF. It's several steps beyond. Rear-wheel-drive, 280 +/- hp, etc... Not a TRUE Z-car anymore, but good enough for the 21st Century. It's a 2+2 coupe, and we have a 3-dr or 5-dr hatch. However, I will admit that they are SUPER nice, and have MAD potential.

Anyhow, all, if you find out anything about the weight thing, please post it. I'm kinda anxious to hear it without having to empty my ride and take it to the scales myself...

I seem to remember reading somewhere, though I'm not quite certain where that was, that the Ford Racing Performance Parts at least do NOT interfere with warranty, so long as they are installed by a Fored technician in accordance with the car's shop manual. Some parts, however, are marked for 'Off-Road Use ONLY' or affect emissions for states under stricter emissions controls. I'd recommend getting out $5 and picking-up the catalog from your local dealer, then reading the fine print for yourself. You may also want to contact the folks at Ford Racing Performance Parts to hear from them about warranty issues. I hope I've been SOME help, anyhow...

I know most of the part are sold "off road use only!I know the jackson super charger, even though bought and installed by ford wouldn't be covered under any warrenty and would void parts of the factory warrenty!
