308.00 bucks to install 410 gears I would be all over that. I could never find anyone to put gears in my 99 for less than 800.00. I think you have't to reprogram the computer for the lower gears to have the speedometer read correct.

$308.00 is a a great price, especailly from a dealer. definatley have the dealer do it, its cheap (compared to speed shops and private garages) and the dealer knows what the heck their doing. i wish i could get that deal, TAKE IT!

If this qoute was from Ford then whoever quoted it just f'ed up. My friend just got a '02 GT and the dealer he got it from told him $950, that is for a solid axle too.

Cheapest I've been told is $650 with all the parts but it was from a mechanic that does alot of Mustang work. Not that I don't trust him but the IRS is a different ballgame.

I decided to do this myself and so far everything has been very simple. It took about two hours to get the stump out. I am taking my time on this project and will keep you updated on my progress. The independent rear suspension does not affect the gear swap other than you have to remove a few more parts. No big deal.Keep you posted!!

SSHHHSHSHSHSHSHHHSHSHSHSHH!!! I got my gears installed for the price of the gears. Remember the problems with the diff. It is a replaceable if you complain a little. When they did mine they just happened to change the gears.

I had mine changed to 3.73. It was $500 for the labor and $400 for parts, including the speedo box adaptor. I decided to get a Superchip instead of paying $150 simply to adapt the speedometer. For that I got a more aggressive dyno tune with the chip. The total was $1200 -- gears, chip, dyno tune and labor.

Well the gears are in and working fine! The local Ford dealer allowed me to take all the tools i needed home to complete the job.Just food for thought, prepare to pull your hair out on the differential shims, I had to take them to a machine shop and have them milled. But after it was all said and done I have.011 backlash and a very quite rearend!

    Unhappy driveshaft vibration

After installing the 410 gears I noticed a driveshaft vibration at 75 mph and up. Also is it normal for the rear stump to be very hot?I got .011 backlash when we measured so I feel fairly confident that the clearance is ok. Can anyone give me clues on this thump, thump, thump Im hearing at 75 mph and up?Sounds like the driveshaft.

    Did you reindex the DS?

Follow these instructions from a ford DL engineer (Bill Franco)

The first thing that your technician has to do is find the point of maximum run-out on the pinion flange. (This is the round flange that the driveshaft bolts to at the rear). The yellow painted dot was the location for this point but since they removed this flange to replace the gears that was lost. Mount a dial indicator near the flange and put the pointer on the flange pilot ring. This is the ring that centers the driveshaft. It's a round ring just inside the flange's bolt holes. Turn the wheels while looking at the dial indicator and find the maximum plus reading. Now paint a mark on the flange in line where the maximum run-out is. This new mark should now be aligned with the yellow dot on the driveshaft . Roadtest the car for a vibration. If one is still there, remove the driveshaft from the transmission and turn it 90 degrees on the transmission output shaft. Roadtest the car again. Do not re-index at the rear once the marks are aligned. You may have to re-index at the trans. several times
