noise help

I have this wirling grinding sound and I don't know what it is and the dealer is clueless as well... But it isn't supposed to do it.

Anyways, what it is... When I'm at 40, I can take it out of gear, tap the gas and it makes teh noise... Also when changing gears 25 to above 50 it sometimes makes the noise.

Sounds like a mechanical grinding (spinning sound).

This noise is coming from the front drivers side.

i have it.....doesnt matter if you are in gear though.....just tap on the gas...it will do it....dealer is stupid and wont admit it is there. soon I will make them sit with me while I do it over and over and over. It will get worse.....it will get so bad it will do it every time you tap the gas....i will let you know if I get it fixed.

I wonder if it isn't the same thing that I can hear in my car?

Once in a blue moon I can swear I hear a ticking / grinding under the hood towards the front of the engine bay. I have honestly never had my tranny make strange noises yet (except when doin about 205 km/h and popping it out of gear into neutral - then it really makes some gear noises).

I think my cylinder head is the one making the noise although I can't prove it yet. I have repeatedly checked with a light underneath the oil cap to visually inspect the cam lobes for anything and can find anything yet.

Maybe the ZeTeC motors are just noisey once in a while?

Is this similar you think?

well the more I drive it the more I hear the noise... I can get it to repeatedly do it at 28-35ish while in 3rd gear and letting off the gas ro tapping on it. Also does it on it's own at other points....
When I am getting on it light to light, When I slow down with clutch depressed and pressing on the brake it will do it on it's own....

HELP!?!?!?! Anyways This wound last about 1 to 2 seconds and is farely quiet for the most part... ticking/grindind/wirling! yes that sounds about right!?

yes that is EXACTLY the sound...take it to the dealer, make a tech ride with you while you do it, its the ONLY way you can get them to admit the noise and look for the problem. If you get it fixed before I do post here please.

Black, as for the noise you are hearing I get that too, though I would classify it more of an intermittant rattle....I'm thinking throwout bearing on that one, but it has to get much worse and much louder before i take it in cause they wont hear it.

Is this at 2000 RPM? Mine has a weird vibe through the shifter at that speed. She's in the shop getting checked out now, for other things too.

no that's a different sound. This is directly related to the throttle somehow.....RPM independent.

It's the servo motor for the variable intake, it probably makes that sound when you shut it down too huh?

mmm...no I don't recall it. I only notice it when in motion.

I would have to agree with the servo assist motor for the variable intake runners. If you listen closely at about 6000 RPM
you can hear a noticeable change in the sound of the engine/intake noise. That is when the runners are completely moved to the maximum! At different engine speeds the runners are being actuated in the event that they need to be adjusted for maximum power.


ON a related note I have a strange "rattling" vibration noise at about 2000 RPM in 2nd gear when I am just putting along...it sounds like the plastic shield covering up the engine belt or something like that...anywhoo it is really nasty and annoying going to try to take it to dealer to troubleshoot. I wonder if they'll give me hell about getting a loaner vehicle

Also anyone have any problems with either door handle being a little "stiff" to open when your car is HOT because of the sun beating on it all day. My door is very difficult to open sometimes when it is really HOT!

It's not the servo motor! This happens to me at 1000 RPM when I tap the gas, between 28ish and 45ish. Also anytime in 3rd or 4th gears and taping the gas.

I still don't know what it is but it is getting worst... Ot seams to do it much more often now. It's not a long rattle! It lasts about 1 second every time it does it. Never longer or shorter alwaysright at 1 second of sound.

Now I have this horrible ehaust rattle right at 2000 RPM's now I know you guys have mentioned this one before. I think you guys said that it was the heat shield on the bottom side of the cat? Correct?

Correct mine fell off yesterday going to work. Just driving along and I guess the 2 little screws / bolts / whatever just fell off and it came forward s****ing the ground. I was scared I was dragging something I ran over I didn't notice, so I changed lanes twice and slowed down some slowly (on freeway) when it just fell completely off! Oh well -- damn thing used to rattle ALL the time anyway.
