    Lightbulb Hood liner

I am thinking of removing my hood liner for two reasons:

    1) To allow the engine to breath better, aide in cooling and airflow
    through the engine bay

2)Because it will probably make my engine seem louder when I am screaming down the street whooping on a Civic Si

Any thoughts from other folks, I have noticed that some vehicles have them and some don't have anything at all from the factory.
I think its just a NVH issue that Ford was trying to take care of.

be aware that the liner also acts as an insulator to keep that red hot zetec from burning off the paint.

Hey Blurry, take a look under that liner. In the case of the '88-'93 Mustangs, Ford didn't paint the area under the liner, just primer! Just wondering if the Focus plant paints the whole hood, or leaves that area unpainted. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the ZX3's have hood liners? If so, perhaps all of the hood does get painted. At any rate, if you do take it off, let us know what you find.

I don't know about taking off the hood liner. It just seems like a ricer thing to me. Granted it may cool your engine a tiny-bit better, but in my mind it's not worth possibly discoloring the paint, and all that extra sound...kinda like one of those coffee can mufflers...just a lot of cheep sound

    Well...

I don't want to sound like a RICE rocket at all and I don't think
that our little Zetec would if I remove the hoodliner.

Thats definitely my main concern is about the excess heat.
Perhaps thats why Ford put one on the SVT model because
we are running 92 octane and revving to 7k. I think I'll pull it
off for a week or so and see how it goes. Check the top of the hood when I'm done driving to see if its REALLY hot or just warm!

I could always get some Dynamat Premium and paint it blue to match my car...

    Thanks fellas!

My Lightning does not have a hood liner. It comes that way from the factory. Do not know if we have more room between the engine and hood or not. But ayou sure can hear my blower scream at WOT.

"1) To allow the engine to breath better, aide in cooling and airflow through the engine bay"

I really doubt there would be a noticeable difference.

"2)Because it will probably make my engine seem louder when I am screaming down the street whooping on a Civic Si"

Now you're talking!!! Although I prefer whooping on an Acura RSX! I'm not sure if you'd really hear it over your exhaust though! I have an AEM CAI and the air howling through that aluminum tube might sound cool! Let us know what happens.

here is a really ghetto "mod"
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2414872321

Note, he put it on his Hyundai Elantra...

The AEM intake sounds BURLY! I ran into this kid in a ZX3 and revved the engine for him. He was like, "what is that?" "SVT Focus, with an intake!" my friend garrett shouted "mine don't sound like that..."

He probably wishes he spent the extra $2K to get one now...

    Well

Well, I removed it earlier today before I went out and I certainly noticed a substantial difference in engine sound really only when the windows were down though. Definitely screams a little louder than before and you can really hear the shift between long and short intake runners now. As far as the heat is concerned the hood was definitely warm but will it really have an impact on the paint? I dunno all I can think is that with the sun beating on it in July it probably gets just as hot so only time will tell.

I want to get a carbon fybre hood anywhoo with the ram-air intake above the air box!

I'm tempted to do it now...so long as I can put it back.

Hey that thing they did with the Hyundai. Raising the hood up a bit at the back is an old trick. In fact, the '75 Aussie Ford Falcon my brother bought a few months ago had the same thing done to it. By the way, it will be on display at the 100th Anniversary Show in Dearborn.

    Hood liner is OFF

Well the Hood Liner has been off for a few days...everything seems fine. It was pretty straight forward just use a small screwdriver to pop off all the push-tabs holding it in about 12 of em.

Engine sounds good at idle...can hear those DOHC's ticking away much nicer now...as I said too in 3rd you can hear the intake roar much better...just before the wind at 70mph drones it out!!!

Oh and it LOOKS a helluva lot better under there...I cleaned up the edges with some windex and it looks nice...painted all nice and BLUE!

Only thing is you can really see the windshield squirters now...maybe I'll get some nice Sonic Blue from the dealer and paintem up nice to match.

Why don't we turn this into a COSMETIC changes post...anyone else who has visually tweekd there SVT let us KNOW!

BlurryBlue, how is the paint on your hood holding up? I'm going to remove my headliner and want to know if there's any negative effects.

My last Foci, a 2001 S2 didn't come with hood insulation from the factory. Compared to my Current '03 SVTF there was definitely more engine noise

I've owned several fox body Mustangs (79-93) and everyone has had paint under hood (just enough to cover the primer).
