Smile Fiberglass Bedcover for 2001 Lightning

I'm looking for information on where and who has a fiberglass bedcover with a wing/spoiler for a red 2001 lightning. I'm interested in new or used. I have the soft tonneau cover now, but I'm in the process off making some appearance mods to my truck.

Almost any place that sells truck caps, camper tops, soft and hard tonneau covers and any other truck accessory will be able to get you either a tonneau cover with a wing or add a wing to any cover you like. Call up a local dealer and tell them what you are looking for. They will most likely have something on thier lot for you to look at and they can order a cover already painted to match your paint. Also, if they have a sales lot, they most likely offer installation too. Just take a look in the phone book, you will find something.

If you are looking for mail order or online places your choices narrow quickly. Every major manufacturer has a website but very few have online stores. There are some that carry products but once you get them, you have to install them yourself. That can be a rather cumbersome and difficult for one person. Not to mention, many companies will void the warranty if the cover is not installed properly. You can save money doing it yourself but you open the door for other problems.

Either way, its up to you. I went with a local place who ordered the top for me, set me up with all the options I wanted with it, had it delivered to thier site and installed it in about an hour and a half, while I waited. They will honor the manufacturer's warranty and also warrantied thier work. They were fast, courteous and helpful. They actually saved me money too because they will order several covers at once and the truck will make a trip to thier site and drop off 20-30 covers. You save on shipping because the truck does not have to make a single trip out to your house just for you. Shipping will incur freight and over-sized package charges too. The other benefit of getting it from a local dealer is, if it is damaged from shipping or installation, you can take it back to the dealer and the dealer has to work out the issue, not you.

Take a look at your options and give places a call. See what deals there are. You may be able to find a real sweet deal on exactly what you are looking for. Some places have stuff in stock that they sell at reduced prices. Check around, do some shopping, you will dig up a good deal somewhere.

Thanks for the info. What type of cover did you go with? Do you have the wing on yours?

    Thanks

I have an A.R.E. cover and no, I did not get a wing.

You can see more info here:

I have the LS II series. The only option I have is the carpeted, acrylic liner. I am considering getting the keyless entry but its another 260 bucks. I like it though. It covers the bedrails completely and its body colored. It doesn't sit too high so it doesn't give the truck that "fat-butt" look. It actually looks like it belongs there and wasn't an after thought.

I am going to get rid of it, but it will probably be spring before I get the fiberglass cover, I've opted to update the stereo system first. E-mail me at jmlittle@usit.net and give me your email address and I'll let you know when I make the change. Like I said I plan on doing it in the spring, but you never know about me...if money comes available I might do it next week. I'm kinda unpredicable like that.

    Thanks

Yes, I've checked them out and I really like the A.R.E. LSII model, but to add the wing and the undercover costs about $1500 so that's why I'm waiting a bit.

I paid $729 for my LSII ARE cover. The wing must realy add to the cost.

I must be getting ripped off. I was quoted $869 for the cover. Extra $399 for the wing with the tail light or $299 without, $89 for the fabric headline and $49.95 for the hardware shroud, installed. I thought that was a bit much, but this place is the only local dealer of A.R.E. that I have near me.

    Thanks

Inovations makes a great cover with a spoiler built in. I think they look the best.

Do you have a phone number or website I could visit to see some of their stuff?

    Thanks
