    Unhappy Hallett Event

I want more than anything to go to this. But the price just seems a little... well steep. Wasn't the one in Kansas only like a $100. Is the cost the same whether you participate all 3 days or just 1? I, like everyone else on here I'm sure, am an enthusiast. And I didn't buy this car just for it to sit in the garage. I'm not rich either. Well I am RICH but I'm not wealthy. And I've missed every driving event pretty much. And I don't want to miss another one. HELP! Oh well, I guess I better start saving now. I just needed to vent.

PS- By the way, had a blast with everyone at the go carts on Saturday. Definitely a repeat event. Hope to see pics soon. (Minus my lawnmower man impression.)

The event in Kansas ended up costing the chapter that did the event alot of money.

The event that is scheduled in Florida the weekend before ours is alot more that the $225 we are charging for the weekend.

We could probably arrange something that would only include one day instead of both.

So you get an idea of the cost. The track is costing in excess of $8000 for the weekend, which is considered cheap by most standards in the US.

If we knew that 100 people were going to be there, than the price could be reduced. The price was based upon breaking even with about 50 paying participants.

Any and all profits go back to the chapter to do with as they please. So if we end up with a profit we will use it for some future events, or not charge local dues.

i agree $225 is a fair amount of money to drop in one weekend. track events never seem cheap.

i haven't been to an svtoa on-track event before, but if it's anything like the mid-america shelby meet or a high speed touring event, i would expect something like six 15 minute sessions or five 20 minute sessions each day- that's 3 hours of actual track time.

doesn't sound like much? compare it to the $70 spent for an hour in a go kart, the $18 you spend for less than 4 minutes of driving at an autox, or the $3500 bondurant charges for 3 days. the last two years, it's cost $95/day for hallett track time at the shelby meet. and they don't provide any meals or driving instruction.

true, it's expensive. but i think it's actually a pretty good deal. if you're still not sure, consider joining us for the high speed touring event in september.

now, who wants to loan me $225?

Actually the MidAmerica Shelby and Fast Ford meet is $120 per day with not instructor.

On Thursday of MidAmerica you would be lucky to get 5 15min sessions. On Friday 4 sessions. Saturday you get alot of time.

I am planning on trying to get everyone 6 to 7 15 min sessions. The instructors will be availible for both days and not only to novice drivers, but to any one who wants some pointers.

i just checked- dell's right. not sure if it's gone up or my memory is just that fuzzy (more likely).

btw- 6 or 7 sessions is a *lot*. when i participated in the mid-america meet in 2001, i skipped the 6th session on both thursday and friday. after five sessions, i was exhausted.

not only will this be a cheaper event, but probably much more enjoyable. it's generally much cooler in may than june, and the track will be a lot less crowded.

what if we can't make it the first two days? Is this an all or nothing event? I really want to make it out there Sunday, but I know I can't make it Fri or Sat (sis's graduation). Will there be much going on Sun to show up?

FWIW, we pay $320.00 to race at Road America for a weekend. And that event does not appear to have all the activities that the Hallett event does...
Granted, Road America is one of the best road courses in North America, but that's still a lot of coin for a weekend of racing.

BTW Dell- We have all the event info posted now (after you did it first!)

I think we can accomodate someone who can only come one day.

SVTOA will have helmets available for people who do not have Helmets.

I know this is probably a little late, but yes our On Track in KS hurt us. It was cheap, but not profitable at all. The price you have is right on the mark. No one up here complains about your price one bit. We (or at least myself) can't wait to drive Hallet though. Don't worry it will work out and everyone will have a blast. I look forward to meeting everyone.

dell informed me over the weekend that he has received permission to allow single day entrants. the cost is $150 and this does not include dinner saturday night.

hopefully this will help out anyone that was concerned about the price. we'd like to see everyone out there!

The price is pretty good by me. The only question I have is if there is a "official" hotel for the event? For the KC event we had a deal set up with one of the local hotels that gave us a group rate. I saw something on the flyer about a Hampton Inn.

    Can't wait-

Yes the hotel is a Hampton Inn in Sand Springs OK.

    918-245-8500 is their Phone number.

You can also go to www.svtoaok.com and get the brochure.

Make sure you tell them you are with SVTOA

    Related Subject here,
I just went to the SVTOA Fast Fords Weekend
in Bakersfield, Ca. I drove there "238" miles the evening after a 24 hour shift at work. I stayed both days, I gotta tell you though
I knew I wanted to attend this event when I 1st heard about it.
I took my 13 year old, we had a blast
Anyone seen the tv commercial .... cost of tickets ...
cost of hotel... cost of T shirts...
Cost of Memories.... Priceless. A great weekend, not rich here either, but got to tell you all it was definetely worth whatever I paid for the weekend. On the way home we passed the SVT trailer as it was going to KnottsBerry Farms "I think". I pulled along side revved the 03 and waved, horn etc. Still had my On Track sticker and car number on the windows. What a blast

Thanks Dell, my reservations are set. I'm with the KC Chapter (but live in Wichita) and Phil said y'all might need some volunteers for setting up. I was planning on meeting up with the KC folks as they passed through and convoying down. If you need some help, I can leave earlier as I'm taking vacation that Friday anyway. Just let me know and I'll be there if I can.
