Wheels for Shelby GT 500

Has anyone put after market wheels on their GT500. If so can you tell what kind and where they were purchased? I'm having a heck of time finding any that fit, I'm told the wheels that came on the car are fitted and matched and I shouldn't replace them as it will impact the performance. Thank you for the help

I've seen a few folks up here put aftermarket rims on their GT500s.

I'm first just a bit confused...exactly who is telling you the performance is impacted? And what performance is impacted (overall weight? tires that go on the rims?)

Hello Richard,

The parts dept manager at the Ford Dealership is the one that told me the performace would be impacted. He said the car would not handle the same at high speeds and may cause problems. I've searched the web and every site I could find and haven't found anything/aonyone that can confirm this. I don't plan on racing the car, etc but I don't want to do something that could damage it either. Thanks for the reply.

I put custom wheels on my GT500. It certainly did "impact performance"

My handling, 1/4 mile ET and 60' times improved dramatically


I run 11" wide wheels on the rear, allowing a much larger tire for better grip/traction/handling.

CCW "Complete Custom Wheel" makes GT500 wheels to spec with the correct backspacing and clearance for brakes.

I see lots of GT500s with CS aftermarket wheels. I am thinking CS40s on my GT500 but really don't want 20s!

Only thing to remember is, it's easiest to order an additional set of TMPS sensors and have them mounted to your new wheels. Leave the originals on your stock wheels, way less hassle this way. You can also obtain the TMPS training tool cheap on ebay or borrow one from someone with an F-150 (it's in the owners manual pouch)

I have Black 18X10 GT500 Wheels going on the Roush for the track. I ordered the TPMS and a tool with them. Should set this up in the next couple of weeks!

Just thought I would add a little updated info...

On the 2010-up cars, the "band style" TPMS sensors from '09 and previous years have been replaced by sensors mounted to the valve stem, and they are NOT compatible with the 2010-up PCM, which means if you swap wheels and have those older sensors, you will not be able to "train' them to your 2010 or 2011 car. You will have to go to the new sensors...

oh, and did I mention that the CCW's look even better with Kona Blue??

They do look good! For my White GT500 I am not sure what I'll eventually do. I don't think I want Chrome with White. On my 09 Black Jack I just put on track wheels, no TPMS stuff on them and no lights are on! When did the TPMS stuff start?

Don't know if you're still looking for wheels, but I bought mine from Late Model Restorations. Wheels were less than $200 per wheel. They have various configurations and pkgs. (latemodelrestoration.com)
These are 18" and required a 1/8" spacer up front because of the caliper.
