Does anyone know how to disable the traction control?

I don't always remember to press the stupid button after starting the car.

I've come close to killing myself a few times when I pull out into traffic and the damn car goes nowhere!

POIZNIS,

Thanks for the reply.

As I previously stated, "I don't always remember to press the stupid button after starting the car.". That is why I want to "Disable" Traction Control. :spinem:

Did the engine green light went on and it seemed like the engine wanted to die? It's happened a handful of times to me, last time was just making a plain slow right turn.

Thanks for your response.

See this thread.

The Black Box works well too. T3 Cobra would be the guy for that.

Hey Shark cool link man, but honestly, all you have to do is get into the habit of turning it off. To start, I'll just stick a visible note on the visor to remind me to disconnect the TC. Make an effort and stretch that finger just a bit more :D

An aftermarket performance chip will get the job done as well.

ox03,

Are you saying that an aftermarket performance chip will let you program the TC disabled?

If so, do you know which specific chips have this feature?

Cheers!

Both the Superchips and DiabloSport performance chips allow for TC to be disabled.

Dont use the chip to turn off traction control. You will need it in snow and in rain when you make alot of horsepower or even stock. It will save you life. The guys right, get in the habit when you sit in and start the car, just push it in, thats it. I do it subconciously now.

POIZNIS,

If I have it my way, my Cobra will NEVER see snow or rain.:)

TOTALY AGREE IN THE RAIN TRACTION CONTROL IS ALWAYS ON, THE COOL THING IS FOR SOME REASON IT DOESENT ACTAVATE AS EASYLY IT WILL SPIN ALITTLE. ON A DRY THEY SPIN AND IT BOGGS DOWN I TO HAVE GOT IN THE HABBIT OF TURNING IT ON AS SOON AS I GET IN

There is no fuse to pull. I'm working on a fix. It will shut off trac -loc each time the car is started. You will still have function of the switch. A 20$ part, 3 spade terminals, wire and 2 scotch locks. No cutting on factory harness. I'll keep everyone posted after 1st of Jan.

Im back. I checked out the site LandShark posted. The same thing can be accomplished with a Ford seat belt timer switch from the early 80s. No soldering required. Feally simple three wires. I left the diagram and part number at work. Wont be back for three weeks. :cbra: :cbra: :cbra:

Dang if you do Dang if you don't!

Now that I am into the habit of turning TC off, just today I found myself sliding sideways, fortunately it was a controllable one. Road was slippery after rain last night. I wonder if TC on had helped? Hmmm. . .

Mongoose,

Here's a thread I started a while ago. There's some interesting information on disabling/altering the traction control.

Good luck!

ok I'm a new owner of a 2003 cobra vert and I understand that
tc keeps the rear wheels from spinning, but I don't understand
the advantages of turning the tc off.

thanks in advance

goodquest,

Please excuse my sarcasm, it is directed at Ford.

To answer your question.

At an intersection, make sure there is no oncoming traffic or you have a good life insurance policy, pretend the traffic is heavy and punch the accelerator, to take advantage of all those ponies, to get out into traffic.

Just as you pull out into traffic, you will notice that your car will appear to DIE! Now imagine what would have happened if you had actually been pulling out into traffic.

It scared the **** out of me!

TC stops the wheels from spinning by KILLING the engine!

With TC "OFF" the wheels will spin, but at least you will continue to accelerate and move forward!

TC sucks period. I always remember to shut off TC when I leave the garage. However if I have to make a quick stop at 7/11 or whatever I usually forget to shut it off. More than once this has bit me in the ***. Hate it, Hate it, Hate it... One way or another this is going to end soon! :cbra:
