You would think after 5 or 6 of these(open track events) I would get the hang of some of this stuff. I am doing Gingerman and Putnam also, I will see you there.I will also do more work on my brake ducts. :hrs:

Ther is a small chance that I might get to Gingerman in Sept. with the Cobra Club. I think that you ran with them last year. Glad to see you doing well.

Vampire I have about the same number of events that you have and still am learning. As for your brake ducts. If you have some kind of ducts now you have probalbly have removed your dust sheilds, if not do so it will help a bunch.

Sorry for so long before my reply. This will be my second time at Gingerman and I like this track, a lot of fun to drive. I will be takeing the backing plates off the front and rear. In the future I plan on doing the braided lines as well.It is hard to stop 4800lbs and not create heat and fade but i am trying to do as much as i can with the stock calipers and rotors.

Most of the Road course events that I have done were in a Lightning. I ran with SVT-KY in KS at the first LightningFest. Cliff does drive his truck extremely well and he is a real good guy. I did what you are trying to do and that is run with the stock brake setup. I pull the dust sheilds F&R and ran ducts to the front. I upgraded my brake fluid to ATE Super Blue and used a full race pad, I think that I might run something less agressive if I did it again. I would cook the rotor, pads, and caliper every event. One Sunday I was looking for a caliper to get home on. As you speed increases and you compress you braking zone you will go through brakes even faster. If you are serious about making your truck road cousrse safe then you need to follow SVT-KY lead and up grade the brakes to Brembo or Wilwood. I chose to get a Cobra instead of continuing a with my L. The L is now my tow truck for the Cobra.
I miss the groups of people who come around and marvel at the ability of the Lightning to run with the best cars. I do not miss the expense of keeping it track ready.
My Lightning is my favorite vehicle of all time when I wear it out I will rebuild it. IMHO the Gen II Lighting is going to be hard to beat.
One last thing if you have not lowered the truck you should, and do a panard bar those two thing will add much to the handling.

Kim and his missus are the hot sauce !!!

We had some good times racing in Kansas, a LONG
way from either of our home base. When things
break on ya out there it's a long haul home.

Kim did a great job trying make the lightning work,
and I haven't kept up with the mods he did. But
I can tell you that we pretty much went around
the track neck and neck and had a BLAST !!!

I hope he comes to Gingerman with the SCMC
huys so we can run again ...

Thamks for the kind words Cliff. Things are looking better for Gingerman in Sept.

I use dot 5 fluid and Hawk super duty pads and have ducts to the fronts.I have been through 3 sets of rotors and i am on my second set of front calipers.Cliff and some of his freinds saved me at IRP a couple of years back when i burned up my stock front rotors. Some day i will upgrade to the Wilwood setup,I dont think i will do the Brembo's because of cost. The L is fun to drive hard ,but it does cost more to keep. I think in the future i will buy or build a track only car and use my faithful L as a tow truck.I hope to get a Hotchkis TVS for it some day to make it handle better.

I had the Hotchkis springs F&R they made a big difference. Had to take them off to raise the truck back up for towing. Sold them to a fellow L owner so I can buy a Borla cat-back for the Cobra.

Some day i would like to have a Silver Bullet catback from JDM. I have a friend that has it and it sounds good. The TVS system from Hothkis is F&R springs and F&R sway bars the shocks for the kit are seperate and are 80$ each. The kit is around 1100$(I Think). My first mod will be a FTVB and Moroso high cap pan.
Well gotta go and pack for the Carlisle all Ford National meet in PA.Hope the wheather holds.

We are all not as rich as you are Cliff.

Bah ... I don't play golf, play poker, drink every Friday night with the "boys",
go on cruises or skiing vacations ... It's all a matter of priorities.

Besides, the only place I'm RICH is in Children and Grandchildren ... 7 and 12.
And they cost a bunch !!!
