View Full Version : Heated Seat Problem...

My passenger heated seat won't shut off. So, I took it up to the dealership today for them to fix it. Here's the timetable:

12pm: Dropped off car
12:45pm: Shuttle service back home (Dealer was all out of loaner cars)
3:15pm: Called down there; still haven't taken it in.
4:30pm: Still no update; tech tells me he might have to call me tomorrow about it, possibly a bad element in the seat.
5:25pm: Picked up car, sans repairs.

Here's my question. Anyone have a problem like this w/ their seat(s)? If so, how long does the repair take, and what's involved? I'm going back on wednesday morning to drop it off, and to get a loaner car.

Also, kinda off subject, but I don't want to start a new thread: I have a small bulge in the sidewall of my driver's side front tire. Is this considered warranty work to get fixed/replaced, or do I need to buy a new set of tires?

Thanks in advance.

Theres a recall on all foci from 2000-2004 the elements in the seats quit working and the recall take about half a day to complete had it happen to mine along with a intake that keeps on breaking

My passenger seat will not shut off either? It's the switch that will not stay locked down in the off position. I will replace/repair the switch my self, it's not worth the hastle from the dealer and I know it will be done right the first time and nothing else will get broken by accident either. The switch is only $17 from Fordparts.com

AFAIK, the recall does not include the SVTF models. :wtf:
There have been a few standard Foci owner's that have gotten letters from Ford,
though noone has posted the recall number.
If I find anything else, I'll add to this post.

EDIT:
Found some information at Blue Oval News....>>> Clicky (http://www.blueovalnews.com/2004/recalls/recall.04b16.focusseats.htm)
Definitely says SVTF not affected. Hmmmm.

This would not be covered under warranty as it is probably from either a pothole or something similar. We've had a number come in like that, and the tires have been checked out - no assembly issue, rather it is road hazard, which is not covered by your tire warranty.

Just get the one tire replaced - no need to get a complete set, unless you've got lots of miles and have to replace the others anyway.

^^^I have to disagree... Kinda.
I bought the ESP when I purchased my SVTF and I also opted for the road hazzard warranty for an extra $80. I have already used the road hazzard (from Ford) to replace two tires from a pothole (yes, same pothole flattened two of my tires at the same time). Tires are covered by Ford's ESP Road Hazzard, but the bent rim or any suspension items are not.
As for Ford's standard warranty without the ESP Road Hazzard, you're outta luck on the tire.

Key words being that you bought an ESP with Road Hazard, which would cover the tires. Most people don't spend the extra for Road Hazard warranty and many regions don't offer it at all. No warranty = no coverage.

That's right. I was just clarifying because your previous statement could lead someone to believe that pothole damage is not covered. You said that road hazzard is not covered by tire warranty, when in fact, it is if you have the tire warranty. No tire warranty = no free replacement from Ford.
No harm, no foul. That's why there's more than one of us here. If we all knew everything, and agreed on everything, then we all wouldn't need to be here. :tmb:

<EDIT> Sorry, road hazzard (potholes) is NOT covered by tire warranty. It is covered by road hazzard warranty offered with ESP. Sorry. Tire warranty is something else. ;) You all get the idea.

You can take the switch apart carefully. There is a small leaf spring that flexes from the on to the off position and when that weakens it will not stay in the off position. Slightly!!!! bend or put some pressure on it to reshape the spring and reassemble. I ordered 2 switches and they were both wrong so I fixed it myself doing the above.
