View Full Version : Thinking about upgrading...............?

I have fought the temptation of upgrading to the '03 ever since the new fascia and tail came out.... sure it's got more Hp and better handling, but I REALLY like the the '01 body parts better.
Then it hit me... I was holding off until the '04 or '05 (which ever is the new body style) to up grade................If I'm not going to keep the '01, why not not trade up to the latest & greatest during my wait.
I hope the '03 fascia and tail will grow on me!

supercharging your 2001 isn't an option?

Good point... but for the money it takes to upgrade, the '03 is a no brainer.
5K difference in the price (minus the trade in value) and you have a factory tuned super-charger, wider wheels. wider and newer tires, better suspension.
The wife said "...go ahead an get the '03..." I just have to get used to the "inferior looks", for now at least.

i agree it would be cheaper, but i was pretty attached to the looks of my 2001, plus i didn't like the front fascia at all on the 2003s or the fact they had lost the aluminum block. so i decided to stay with the 2001. maybe not practical, but thats what an obsession does to you.

I supercharged my 2001 also, and I'm quite happy.

very funny Gabor :D But I don't think blowing the motor had anything to do with the supercharger... it was only 6psi!
Besides if it breaks, you build it stronger :D and now that the motor is stronger and can take more abuse, it's being upgraded to a D1SC blower.

What is the deal with supercharging this motor. Is the aluminum block strong enough? Do you have to change the pistons and rods, and if not does that limit the amount of boost you can run to the point of making the investment not worth it?:huh:

first off, the basic kits offered for this motor are pretty much safe amounts of boost for the stock engine. with the kits you shouldnt need new pistons or rods. second, you don't need to be running 30 pounds of boost on these to get nice numbers. if you have a 4V 4.6 and you want more power, a blower is probably where you should be looking. cheapest way to get the power to my knowledge.

Have you ever thought of restiling so the car suits you. I mean some of us like the way the 03 looks and don't think it has an inferior look as you call it. I guess everyone is intitled to thier opinion and taste even if it's bad. Rachrse
