Jump in and become involved with your local chapter and / or other car clubs. You'll have a blast!

I'm new too. Just purchased a 2001 Cobra SVT convertible. Near mint condition with only 24K mileage.
Is it possible to put my VIN on and get an originalbuild sheet and price?
My car has a 4.10 ring and pinion. Considering a change to 3.55
I love the car. Almost bought an 06 Vette, but this was more fun.

Get your VIN and call 800-367-3788 and see if they're still giving out certificates, etc. Let us know what they say, please! :tmb:

I just bought my 01 vert, and called them about several SVTs I was researching. They do still send out the certs - they are 40 bucks a piece unless your a registered SVTOA member, and then they are only 35 bucks.

Got to say, I have always been a vette fan - but these SVTs are the REAL DEAL. You can git on it :spinem: as much as you want, and still take a child under 12 for a stroll around town in the backseat.

I was looking for a new car when I happened on my SVT Cobra. I had an '06 Corvette out for an afternoon. It was the 6 litre variety with paddle shifted automatic.
The shifts were too soft for my liking and the ride was terrible. The 'Vette felt every crack on the highway. I was not impressed with it at all.
So I started looking for a late '60s muscle car with a big block.
I stopped in to visit a friend that collects cars and he asked "why not a Mustang?".
Tossed me the keys to his own SVT just so I could get the feel for it.
I was impressed! The car pulled and rode like the Corvette should have.
Of course 4.10 gears and trick exhaust helped.
So I bought it.

Don't know if this is off topic or not, but I bought an 01 Cobra and loved it. I wanted a '03 but couldn't afford it at the time. Long story short I now have an '03, but the '01 was a great car.

I'm a died in the wool Corvette guy...always will be...don't go there.

I was in the market for a C5 when I happened onto a '01 Cobra. I got a great deal on the car because my son works at the dealership. I got the kinda deal that would make a Vette guy but it. It was the kinda deal that would make a Mustang guy buy a Vette if he found a similar deal. Anyways...

Both are great cars! I'm going to use the Cobra as my daily driver. I have a lot of questions about the options on the car. I'll admit I don't know much about the Mustang. Is there an options list somewhere in the car? My vette has a list of options under the console lid. Does the Mustang have anything similar?

While talking to a tech at the dealership let's call him "Mr. Mustang" because he has two of them and described himself as an "expert"...

He told me that the '01 Cobra has a straight axle and dual exhaust. But when we put it on the lift we found that it has a crossover ahead of the catback and an IRS rear end.

Mr Mustang told me these were not available until '03.

So where can I find the straight poop about this car?

I am not in any stretch of the imagination an expert on Mustangs. The '01 Cobra was my first Mustang in that body style. In 2001 IRS was standard on the Cobra as well as the 4 valve engine. I am not sure of the options, I think they were mostly exterior options, but not sure. I think they may all may of been standard with everything.

If you get a chance to get an 2003 or 2004 Cobra the difference btw these and the 01 is amazing. It's like driving a whole different car. The engine loves mods and every little thing you do is really noticable. Have fun with the Cobra, you'll enjoy it I'm sure. Someday, I'll add a 'vette to my mix, I gotta have that and a 911 before I die :)

Thanks for the note bp!

There seems to be plenty of sites available for the SVT Cobra. Trouble is they don't offer a great deal of help with detailed info. I'll make phone calls tomorrow to Ford SVT and SVTOA. I'm probably going to have to join some clubs or something just to learn about my car...

Like most used cars though the previous owner didn't leave the owners manual in the car. Is that available online as far as anyone knows? I'd really like to learn more about the sound system. It looks like a pretty sophisticated and capable piece but honestly it sounds like well you know. I have got to be missing something. If it's like the system in my Cadillac it will definitely take the manual to get the most out of it.

So far I'm lovin' the car. It's not a Vette...but then it's NOT a Vette. lol

I am not sure of the options, I think they were mostly exterior options, but not sure. I think they may all may of been standard with everything.

3 options:

1. Chrome wheels. (As opposed to the "regular" ones like on the '99 Cobras.)

2. Rear spoiler.

3. Floor mats.

:tmb:

Best thing to do would be to grab an owners manual off ebay as well as the SVT supplement to it. You should also surf on over to www.svtperformance.com and join up there and read their '99-'01 section. Lots of good stuff.

Three mods that I would recommend right away:

1. Speed Sensitive Volume modification. (Search SVTPerformance.com)
2. Gears.
3. Hand held tuner. (SCT, Diablosport, etc.)

After that, you can go nutz with exhaust, intakes, etc.

Thanks for the replies!

I called SVT and ordered the docs they offered. They had detailed info about the car #402) and confirmed the engine is original. They offered that sometimes the sig plate can become loose and come away from the valve cover. He's looking into a replacement. In the meantime the docs should arrive any day. After that I called Helm and ordered the owners manual and the SVT supplement.

To begin with I'm thinking CAI and flowmasters. I'm looking into a Diablosport Predator.

I believe I have a handle on the sound system now. It's very similar to the one in my Eldorado though slightly less sophisticated and with a few less options...I miss the weather channel, that came in handy around here...but it's more than adequate. Maybe a sub would enhance the bass.
