other than a few people tried to take us out on the highway, but that's what you get for driving in Oklahoma. The vibration under braking was getting pretty ugly by the time we got home, but we made it.
Thanks to everyone who offered help, it is much appreciated even though I probably didn't sound like it at the time. My state of mind was pretty poor.
Amy, Sparky and I will probably see you Tuesday at the cruise.

So glad to hear you guys made it ok..We had a beer while watching the rest of the game for you..we knew you needed one! Glad all three will be out Tuesday night. See ya then!!
Heath, to fill you in, one of Joe's front rotors cracked yesterday out at the track... :upst: I'm sure he'll fill you in Tuesday night. I have the tent so I'll try to bring it out a little earlier Tuesday in case we need it.

cracked? Man that sucks. On the upside I suppose it was better to discover this now than either Lightningfest or On Track in college station. I know if anyone is in a better position mechanic wise to fix it it would be Joe.

Glad to hear you guys made it back ok. Was there any other damage besides the rotor?

Yes, one of my spiffy new rotors split like a ripe melon while I was out with Chris in her car. Several people heard funny popping noises from the front of my truck while we were out. When I went out for the last session I hit the brakes going into turn one and there wasn't much there but vibration. This is why it is a good idea to go slow on the first lap of a session and use it as a test/evaluation lap. If I had been running the way I was earlier it would have been ugly.
It was definitely better to find this out locally (sorta) than 500 miles away from home. This is going to cause me to miss both Lightning Fest and On Track because I have completely lost faith in my brakes. What really sucks is that I finally got them to run without fade only to upgrade to structural failure. I am currently looking into aftermarket brake kits. I really like the one from TCE that uses a 13x1.25 rotor and a 6 piston caliper. No more brake woes.
I took the stock rotors to work today and turned them, then swapped them on when I got home. There are two large cracks in the LF rotor that start at the hub and go all the way to the edge. These are the funny noises that were heard. There are also a few smaller cracks that start in the middle of the friction surface and extend to the edge of the rotor. The RF rotor is fine and doesn't even look like it has been around the track. It's possible that the cracked rotor was a fluke, but it doesn't matter. Until I upgrade, the thought of a dull cracking sound and a two piece rotor will always be in the back of my mind. The pads are now white. I have never seen a pad get so hot it turned white. The calipers look like the didn't get hot at all. Usually, the dust boots get cooked into brittle little dusty lumps but this time they look like new. On the LF, the pad was actually glued to the rotor somehow. There was a white goo-like substance holding the pad to the rotor. Wierd. I replaced the rotors and went for a drive. All feels OK other than a slight pull to the left under moderate braking. That could just be the road because my other truck does about the same thing.
One last thing. My apologies to anyone offended by my "vocabulary expansion exercise" after I discovered the broken rotor.
See everybody tomorrow night.
