Well I was cruising home from the movies tonight and decided to hit the 143 speed limiter. It doesn't exist I backed off at 149 because we were catching traffic fast.

So how fast have you all had your CSVT?

Yeah basically. It is called Autoroute instead of Autobahn here though. I plan on throwing some Nitto's on there this week and getting another top speed run on the way to Germany. So far I have some parts on order from BAT that shipped yesterday. As for getting up to speed didn't take long at all just traffic was becoming danger close and didn't want to put anyone's life in jeopardy.

Hi,

I pushed a Jetta GLI with a VR6 to 220 KPH and he had to move back to the right lane and I went up to 230 KPH (143 MPH) and I was not at the end yet.

I wish that we had something like that here. The problem is that Americans don't really know how to drive on the freeway (interstate). They tend to drive the same way in the country as they do in the urban areas, the same speed in all lanes and they don't let the faster people go by. Not everyone does this but enough do to keep traffic bottled up. Now I was told that the Europeans are taught better driving techniques (this was by a Germen). How true is this? I know that the speed laws on the Autobahn are inforced much stricter, if you are driving in the left lane and not using it for passing only you will be pulled over (correct me if i'm wrong). And back to your orginal question I have a 2003 Cobra and backed off at 140 mph because we were catching traffic fast + the speed limit was only 70mph. I will wait for the track before I try that again.

I'm actually a SVTF owner, but I dropped in on this discussion becasue I thought it was interesting. I'm in the army and stationed in Germany and let me say, speed limits are not strictly enforced in the parts of Germany that I have driven in. From my experience driving and riding it's go as fast as you are willing to go. I frequently get passed by Porsches, Audis, BMWs, etc, etc. In fact, in the 8 months I have spent in Germany I can't recall a single time that I saw someone pulled over by the Polezi (German for police). But, in a two week stint back home in Florida I saw like a dozen or so cars pulled over for speeding or some kind of traffic violation. And to add to that, the only bumper to bumper traffic I have experienced was from road construction, not from a accident or cars driving slow because some Joe was pulled over for being 5mph over the speed limit like you see in the states. It's a shame because most Americans will never know what their car is capable of. It's funny on the Autobahn becauase just when you think you are going fast some soccer mom with her Audi A4 Quattro wagon blows past you. lol. I've seen that soooo many times. But anyways, point being, and one of the previous posters said it best, American DO NOT know how to drive, ESPECIALLY on the highway.

Actually, there is no speed limiter on the SVT Contour. The speed is drag limited to 143 MPH in stock form. Obviously lowering springs and any other areodynamic changes would affect that, but in reference to your 149 MPH, you were seeing an "indicated" 149, not necessarily an actual speed of 149. Unfortunately the higher the indicated speed on most cars, the further off they read. Many people have hit 145+ indicated in the contour, but so far as I know, there hasn't been an instance where anyone has reported a radar, GPS, or other type of reading to indicate that they were truly exceeding the 143 mph listed top speed. Hope you enjoyed the info.

Thanks,
Rick

I know it;s been a while since I posted but I have maxed out the speedo, I was following an Opel Calibra down to the drag races at Bitburg towards the end of the last year, and Buckshot is right there is no speed limiter on it. That was with MSDS headers, Magnaflow resonated exhaust and a BAT intake setup before an SCT tune. Running a lil rich.

Yeah, I did over 145 before I had to slow down because of traffic. These Germans over here don't know how to drive. They see you coming and they will jump out in front of you.
