Okay, Terminator folks, here's the question:
"My Ford", the "SVT phoneline", nor the president of SVTOA have been able to answer this question: What was the exact manufacturer and oil inserted into my 2003 Cobra when it was assembled in late August 2002?
My points in this regard are as follows:
Having been an employee of several oil & gas producers for the past 27+ years, I am very aware of API (American Petroleum Institute) specifications, etc. as well as the fact that the "basic product" exiting refinery distillation towers is essentially "the same" regardless of the manufacturer. HOWEVER, the additives injected into the basic product before "bottling" impresses distinctive characteristics. These distinct characteristics are occasionally incompatible. In other words, oil X may generally work as well as oil Y for lubrication, but the different additives may induce seal leaks, etc.
Secondly, not only is the aforementioned true hypothetically, but I have experienced the situation over the past 30+ years of driving and vehicle ownership.
The GMC Tonawanda, NY engine plant was shocked when I asked them what was inserted into my spouse's GMC Jimmy, but THEY WERE ABLE TO ANSWER THE QUESTION, unlike Ford, et al. relative to my Cobra.
Finally, I am not a lubricant manufacter's representative, and I don't care about the extra fuel mileage I can get with 5W-20 oil. I am most interested in engine protection, so if an alternate viscosity range is more appropriate please recommend same.
Thank you,
Tom C
ps: The answer to the primary question is not Motorcraft 5W-20; to my knowledge, Ford MC does not operate any refineries. By the way, my Cobra runs like a scared rabbit on steroids -- luv it!!!
