Just hit 36K miles and the original GoodYear ZR45's are shot. I'm leaning towards replacing them with GoodYear Eagle F1 GS D3's. My question is that even though the new GY's are 245/45-17's, they appear to be narrower than the original tires based upon specs and visual comparison. Any thoughts or experience going to a slightly larger/wider tire using the stock rims? Possibly 255/40's or 255/45's. Tire shops all seem to be pretty clueless on helping me out! Thanks...

the only problem I have seen with going with a wider tire is if you have a after market cat back exhaust system that has a bigger od than stock it might rub the tire, and if you go much wider then you have to worry about the tire rubbing the quad shock. Some people take that shock off, but I've heard that you get some wheel hop when you drag race with out it, but that's only hear say.

Its very likely you can afford to go a little bigger. To retain the same aspect ratio you would need to go with a 275/40/17, that will be the closet over match for diameter to the 245/45/17. Most reputable mail order tire houses will be able to help you.
Have you checked out the Nitto 555's. If not maybe you should. They are awesome tires, at usually a much less expense.
