Urban legend? FLA sent this in: "What to do if you get a traffic ticket... This system has been tried and it works in every state. If you get a speeding ticket or went through a red light or whatever the case may be, and you're going to get points on your license. This is a method to ensure that you DO NOT get the points. When you get your fine, send in a check to pay for it. If the fine is $79.00 make the check out for $82.00 or some small amount over the fine. The system will then have to send you back a check for the difference, however here is the trick. DO NOT CASH THE REFUND CHECK! Throw it away! Points are not assessed to your license until all financial transactions are complete. If you do not cash the check, then the transactions are NOT complete. The system has received its money and is satisfied and will no longer bother you. This information comes from an unmentionable computer company that sets up the standard databases used by every state."...
Don't know if it's true or not.........

I've seen this one lots of times on the net and every time someone debunks it. You know the old rule, if it sounds too good to be true... it usually is. I say this one is nothing more than an urban legend.

According to 'Snoops,' a website which investigates urban legends, this is entirely false.
As soon as I read it, it just screamed urban legend. Do you really think it's that easy to thawart the system?

FALSE!! My nephew is a cop and it does not work. How ever you can ask for a deferred sentence. Pay the fine and no points if you do not get another speeding ticket in 1 year. If you do get another ticket (in that 1 year) then you get the points for both. This I know works I did this 16 years ago (long before my nephew was a cop). He tells me that it still works today. The other thing is to meet with the cop before you go in to the court room and ask if he will be kind enough to change it to something else. I was doing 15 over in a construction zone and was pulled over. The cop wrote me for 5 over. I decided to fight the ticket and made a court date. I met with the cop before we went in and asked him if the ticket could be changed he said O.K. The Judge knew about the change and explaned to me what the cop did for me and if I understood. It was dropped to sudden acceleration no points just a fine. I asked my nephew what sudden acceleration was he said that it is a general (b.s.) term for just a fine w/no points. However the Judge sets the fine and nailed me for $90.00. OUCH!!! But no points. This is in Michigan.
