I am interested in removing my factory air box/filter on my 01 Lightning and replacing with an aftermarket brand.
It appears I have (2) options:
(1) K&N FIPK
(2) Volant Cold Air Intake
- K&N FIPK actually posts a dyno proving 15 hp gain.
- Volant only advertises approximately 20hp gain; however, claims to maintain hp as engine compartment heats.
- Volant appears to cost quite a-bit more, so do you get more for your money?
Greatly appreciate any advice, inputs, and comments.
Thanks..

I would go with the K&N FIPK, no real reason. I would go with a brand you trust and have seen the dyno results. Plus the K&N is cheaper :D Hope all goes well and you find one that you like!

Well, you are not limited to just the K&N or the Volant. Visit the following vendors, listed in no particular order, for some other high flow air intake options that are available. You may also want to search this forum and sites like F150online, nloc, svtperformance, Modular Fords, etc. for air intakes for more background, experiences and opinions of each.

Take into consideration that the KN does not prevent the filter from sucking in the hot air of the engine compartment with a tin divider. Volant isolates the filter with the air box. The guys that built the Volant USED to be the engineering staff at KN :p

I have an Air Raid system on my truck and it come with eveything you need HP increase was somewhere between 15-20hp, this kit also came with the filter Box and wheather stripping to prevent any rain fall coming down the hood from being sucked in. If any one is also interested in a exhaust I'm using a raven exhaust and the sound is great. Under normal driving it's not to loud but when you step on it it sounds awesome.

I have Power Surge Performance on my '01. Works great and I like the way the scoop looks under my truck.
