If you could only spend $500.00 on mods to the engine or the suspention what would you consider or do?

ther are not that many mods out there for our car. the very first mod i purchased was the AEM CAI kit. it costs between

$200 and $ 300, shop around for the best buy. (i believe someone has a used one on ebay)

I paid 229 for mine from
www.focalx.com
and got excellent service and prompt delivery.

the next mod i purchased and installed is the
screamin demon coil and spsrk plug wires. it is an excellent mod and it made a big difference in every day driveability. i bought it from
myfordperformace.com and again got excellent service and prompt delivery.

my next mod is going to be koni struts all around.

I am not trying to be rude, but I feel the cold air kit is the worst waste of money. I had a pully on my ZX3 and I liked it so I put one on the SVT ($110 from my local Ford dealer, he gave me a deal), I also made my own cold air kit, somewhat like I did on the SVT Contour I owned back in 98-99. I dyno'd my SVT Foci with and W/o the whole stock filter adn I only gained 6 h.p. how a cold AEM cold air kit is going to help anymore that that is beyond me.
:wtf: like I said this is just my opinion.

I might have a new dyno on the pully if I head up to the dyno tomorrow.

huh, well it's neat to see there at 6k where it opened up and stayed there.....I guess at that point the no air box option really helps. Unfortunately in day to day driving I'm not in that power band so doesn't really matter...in fact based on the dyno it actually hurts in the power band that I'm in the most. I would think that ANYTHING that helps at the low end would be what people would want.

I'm curious......won't any engine modification void the warranty? For example, the supercharger detailed in a recent issue of SVTOA Enthusiast?

I dont know, but I plan on keeping all my parts I take off just in case something happens I'll put it all back stock and then be on my merry way to the dealer.

Mah... if it breaks, just fix it better... good excuse for pistons, rods etc... drop the compression ratio, add a bigger s/c, blow it up again... keep adding better parts for the stuff that broke... yea it kills the warranty but hey if your happy with the stock setup don't do anything...

for me... I am just drooling over the possibilities of this car... now all I have to do is win the lottery and its all good:bna

You think like I do. upd's are in the mail and when kenny bell comes out with the twin screw I am putting that baby on Mr. Visa.
When you win the lottery, can you buy me a new engine, tranny, and halfshafts? I am looking for about 300whp for the street and 400 at the track. And it has to get at leat 20mpg and be reliable enough to go from cali to ny without the help of a tow truck:thud: .

sorry, forgot to add it has to be less than $20,000 off the dealer lot. Light weight and stronger than factory with a full cage. less than 2500 pounds.
that's not asking too much, is it?

my question is, how are you going to get 300- 400 hp to the ground?
My 82 Mustang GT is about this hp, and to get traction i have to use drag slicks and take off the front sway bar and run skinny tires on the front for weight transfer.
you going to run slicks on the street? if not, then all you are going to do is a smoke show, which is not cool..

Since the car will be coming from the dealer (with a 100,000 mile warranty of course) it will be the engineers problem to try and get that much power to hook on a fwd focus.

Do you have the stock setup in the rear?
I don't know if you already do, but some adjustable shocks would help weight transfer a lot. and skinny tires in front are just for the decreased weight and smaller surface area to cut through the air. The sway bar is the only thing you mentioned that actually helps with weight distribution. With all of the aftermarket products available, there is something that is perfect for your application for the gt.
My brother used to have an 84 GT350 anniversary edition and he had just under 400hp and would not hook up, even with ultra high perf tires. He sold it before he got a chance to put some drag radials on it, but even with the small 245's he would put corvettes to shame within the first 100 feet.

my point is that there is no way you can use 300-400 hp in everyday use un the Focus. the front tires do everything unlike a RWD car.
