Was wondering why the dealers are having such a hard time trying to sell these cars? If they are not moving very fast what are they really worth? Someone told me that they cost the same used as a ZX3. Is this true?

I don't really think it's the cars fault. There wer a number of factors that have went into the car's poor sales. The first was the late availability. The car mags talked up the car and gave it great reviews....but at the time there were very few to get because of manufacturing problems. The next I blame solely on the dealer because they did nothing to market it it as something totally different from a regular focus. Most dealers were only used to dealing with cobra and lightning demographics and did know how to sell to the "punk kid" demographic. The third is the fact that despite what it is, it is still a focus. People just won't justify the extra money if the same negatives about the focus (cheap car, poor reliability) are still there.

you can't have mine even if you gave me sticker for it!!! :D :bna
All used car prices are in the dumps due to Ford and others running 0% for a year. If you find a used one for the price of a used ZX3 let me know my buddy wants one.

I wondered the same thing....one dealer in Roanoke, VA still has 3 Foci SVT on his lot...red, silver, blue...
My salesman is a longtime friend and told me he thought many customers wouldn't pay the added price for the SVT when you could get a loaded ZX3 or ZX5 for less, with 0% financing and 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty. He also said his dealership was really pushing the new T-Bird....
I agree with Inteller.....the car arrived late in the model year, SVT dealers are used to selling Lightning 150's and Cobra's to an older customer, and frankly, the Focus has a reliability issue related to the 2000 and 2001 model years. Even Consumer Reports tested the SVT, said it out performed the other small cars tested (even the new Mini Cooper from BMW) but slammed it due to reliability problems.
Heck, I had a Focus, went to the dealer to drive a Mustang GT, and the salesman never suggested driving the Focus SVT. I did anyway and loved it. I'm an old fart too....52 years old.

I feel very lucky owning one of these vehicles, everyone we have a rare vehicle they made less svt focus's than they made Integra Type R's for a given year and how many real ones do you see, and from what I am hearing from my insurance company that people are wrecking these things on a normal basis, most people don't know what these cars are but they are soon to find out
P.S. imports suck

"Ford never marketed the car."
Funny, this is the same line I hear in other circles about my 96 SHO.
I sure hope this car doesn't turn out to be like the SHO, unkown, unappreciated and UN-der valued.
I think from other Foci, the SVT certainly stands out. The interior is much nicer with the metal accents, color cloth and leather seats, 17" wheels, ground effects and so on. Let's not even include the motor mods, 6 speed tranny and suspension/brake parts for a second. Everything else mentioned above woud put the price of a normal ZX3 close if not higher than the SVT model.
I think these cars are great for what they are, I love drivng it and would never have considered a regular Focus.

So maybe we should all do our part by each buying one cheap now, shrink wrapping it, and cleaning up at the car shows in 10 years. What do you think?

I'm from the Province of Québec in Canada and if it wasn't that my brother is the manager of one of the only 2 SVT dealerships in Québec, I wouldn't even know the SVT existed. I had to drive 200 km to get my car.
This week I brought my car to my local Ford dealer to get the oil change and they all looked at my car like if it was some kind of goddess. You could tell it was the first time they seen one. (And I live in a city of more than 500,000 people)
How can they sale or even mention the SVTF if they don't know it.
