This is the strangest thing I've ever seen.

I've got a 2004 Redfire coupe, and with the sun at just the right angle I can see lettering that appears to be under the paint on my driver's fender, on the hood and on the roof. You can't see it without the sun being at a mid afternoon angle, and then only when looking at about a 45 degree angle. In those spots it almost looks like the paint is so thin that markings on the primered surface are showing through.

The fender and the roof both have "137" written on them, and there is a 4X6 oval on the hood that looks like it may have been a mark around a paint flaw. Can't think of anything else it might be.

Anyone else see anything like this or have an idea what it might be? I'm going to take it to the dealer this week and see what they say about it. I'm not anxious for a re-paint but something's obviously wrong here.

my '04 Lightning has by far the worst paint quality I have seen on any vehicle I have owned in the past. Didn't see it all when I bought it (white tends to hide stuff). One of those things- take it to get re-done and hope it turns out better, but with my luck it will be worse. :(

When we toured the Oakville F-150/Lightning assembly plant, I don't recall seeing them "marking" a vehicle with bad paint. I do remember that all vehicles that were "flawed" i.e. mismatched parts, water leak, etc. were pulled to one side of the factory and fixed. Repaints/touch-ups were done on one side. To the eye, it looked like they did a good job.

If there was a paint flaw, maybe when they marked the area they forgot to remove the grease marker

I wouldn't really worry about the repaint, if you have a really good dealer and a body shop. I actually found my dealership's body shop to do a much better job than what came out of the plant.

I'd also say something to SVT about it. If you aren't the only one, I'm sure they want to know about it and get the problem fixed asap!

Have a 2000 Black SVT Lightning, have had to have the drivers side front fender repainted due to checking in Nov. of 03. I've noticed that since I took it out of garage this spring that the hood has started to check now. Dealer repainted it under warranty, last time. It's on extended warr. now. Had to repinstripe.
