Hello,

I just purchased a brand new 2002 SVTF. I like the car, however, the vehicle bucks in 2nd and 3rd gears. The bucking goes away after I climb through 4000 rpm and is much stronger in 2nd than in 3rd gear. Also, it is much more evident when going uphill. I've owned manual transmission sports cars for the last twenty years and can't believe this is normal behavior or due to poor shifting. Only other thing is that when I shift into 2nd gear, I'm usually around 2500 to 3000 rpm. However, this shouldn’t matter … right? I have never experienced this issue in 1st, 4th, or 5th gears regardless of my RPM. Please advice and thanks in advance.

you need to modify your shifting technique. This car has a dual mass flywheel which actually makes it easier to shift. If you are doing the quick clutch in clutch out technique it will buck. Shift smoother and let the clutch "slip" a little bit. It may seem wrong at first, but it should eliminate the bucking effect. This type of flywheel lets the clutch engage a little more gently, but only if you allow it.

Thanks for the information. However, shouldn't this behavior be evident in all gears if it is due to the dual mass flywheel?

no it isn't always. I never have this problem in the higher gears, just usually 2,3,4. Sometimes 1st if I'm really romping on it.
