hey all,

I'm thinking about selling my 2003 GT to buy a lightning, but am currious about a few things before I do so. What do the stock 01 L's run? I'd like to mod the L a little and would be nice to run a high 12, how much is it gonna take me to do this? The truck will be daily driven (not very far), if I start to mod the L and we'll say get to about 400-420hp to the wheels how reliable is the truck going to be on the stock internals? Also if I want to mod my GT I'd most likely have to put in a stronger trans in. how does the stock L's trans hold up? I have soooo many questions I'd like to ask butt I'd just like to get the basics....thanks in advance

P.S I'm only 19 and dont drive around like an old man! (I'll step on it occasionally, and dont pass up a race!)

Well I am a old man and I still get on it every now and then, why esle would you want an L if you do not drive it hard. I do not drag race with my L, I do HPDEs, More fun IMO. To get into the 12's you need to chip it, the internals of the engine will stand up very wellif your smart about what you do. Go to the NLOC site and you can get all the mods that people do to get into the 12's and even the 11's and still use the truck as a daliy driver, like I do. Better figure on 13-14 mpg of 93 octane.

how do the stock trannys hold up? I've seen a few threads on nloc about guys breaking the tranny! this could be a problem....as far as selling the gt and buying the L, I've just decided to do it, I found out that the insurance on the L will be $1000 cheaper! I pay 4600 for my stang!!!! one of the reasons why I want the L is because not many people around he have them, I have seen 1 or 2, and it seemed to me that you can mod them easier(less money) than you can my GT, and for less money, however if I am gonna have the same tranny problems that I have with my gt, I might have to think about this.... thanks

With mild lightnings I have not heard of anyone having tranny problems.
4lb lower pulley
Chip or Programmer
Cone Filter Kit
Factory Tech Valve Body
some form of traction bar
boost bypass kit and a driveshaft loop will be a good way to get in the 12's and not harm the daily use ability :D

add E-fan kit, Throttle body and a muffler and I went 12.29 @ 110.55 in my previous 2001!
