The May issue of Sports Car International reviews the Caterham Super Seven with the SVTF 2.0 Zetec.
SCI says about the engine The Caterham version, with a less restrictive exhaust, is estimated to put out 185 hp. I was wondering what kind of exahust mods one would have to make to achieve a 15 hp gain and if it would be cost effective.
The Caterham SS with the SVTF engine accelerates from 0 to 60 in 5.1 secs (or at least that's the SCI estimate with a 5 speeds gearbox. Of course 15 hp will never aloud us to achieve that kind of number (or at least not me) but it would be great to have the extra ponies.

why would they want to go with an engine that was slower that what they already had? I thought that the Caterham was already too fast for racing.....or is that the Super V?

This is from their website (I had to look it up cause I haven't paid much attention to Caterham):
The current Caterham USA powertrain program is based on two primary engine options - the 1600cc/ 1700cc Ford Crossflow and the 2000cc Ford Zetec. Both are available in various states of tune to satisfy a broad range of performance needs.
They offer the 1600 cc Crossflow with 100 hpm and the 1700 cc in Super Sprint and HP configurations with 135 and 150 HP respectivly. Then the Zetec 2.0 Roadsport Package with 147 and the 2.0 Zetec Supersport Package with 202 HP. I would assume that the last one is the SVT engine. However it is curious that the website rates it to 202 HP when SCI rates it at only 185. Confusing ...

On whether a Lotus 7 style exhaust has application to a Focus- it doesn't.
Standard fare for 7 clones is an equal length header into a short length of tube & a straight thru shorty muffler. Nothing you would want to do.
On the SVTF in a 7 clone, not really top of the food chain stuff.
Check out an S2000 motor in an Ultralite if you want a hot ride in this class.

I believe they are using the standard ZETEC, not the SVT, as does the Berkin S2 from Superformance. As we all know, there are many more tuner parts for the std. ZETEC.
If you can fit, these are enormously fun cars, reasonably quick, razor sharp handling, and quite fuel efficient. And, not horribly expensive, at ~ $25K for a roller.
Little people have all the fun....
