Hey guys,

I was at a little car show last night with my 99 and 03 Cobras and a Mustang hop up dude told me not to change the blower pulley but to change the underdrive pulley instead. He said that it would void the warrenty with the blower pulley and the underdrive would not. What do you guys think? This is the first ive heard of this.

If you change either pulley you are modifying the car beyond the intended boost levels Ford has set up. If this causes you a problem that indeed you are probably not covered by a Ford warranty on the motor. It would not change where the pulley was. Some people have changed the lower thinking that if needed it could be removed easier and no one would know. I am not sure if that is so but it is easier to bring back to stock appearence than an upper pulley. Anyway thats what I think.

That was his point also. If the lower pulley is changes out and there was a problem, it would be easy to put back and no one be the wiser. Once the upper pulley is changed its all over (if there is a problem)
Thanks for the input. Have to look into this a little further.

I say change the pulley. If it blows up, change it back before towing it to the dealer!!

If you put on a Paul's High Performance ( www.Paulshp.com ) Blower nose piece with a 5lbs. pulley already already attached, you can easily switch back to your stock set up. All you do is unbolt the front nose of the blower, change back to your stock belt, and you're done. I'm getting one for my 03 Cobra. It adds 55rwhp and 75lbs.ft. of torque.

Do lower pulley,The dealer would never notice if you swapped it back.I am goung this route.I think JDM already has the kits including cage. They will notice an upper swap.Just my 2 cents

i looked at the south florida pulley set up today. Looks like it may be the way to go. I am first going to do the intake and exhuast mods, then lower the car and put 18" wheels and tires. Then ill worry about pulley. By then maybe we will have some feedback from someone who has done it and find out how many HP it added and how the engine reacted to it.

I'm not changing any pulleys at all. Please read.

Real story: In my old '94 Stang Conv. I took the car for service and it was time to change the belts, I did not tell them I had after market pulleys. Next morning driving the car back to work, while on the freeway, one of the belts came off, you can imagine, car buckled and fortunately I was on the slow lane, I handled it OK to a stop. The mechanic in charge, did not torque the pulleys accordingly?? since he did not catch they were after market.

Dealer would not fix under warranty since pulleys are after market and could not blame them for anything. So I had to pay and reinstalled the old pulleys. After a couple of days the alternator died. Dealer would not fix either, since the after market pulleys apparently were the cause of the failure. So I had to pay. At least they were cool enough to tow the car at their expense in both instances.

Besides what's the deal with 4 or 5 HP more? the difference is negligible. I know I have a fast car, and the car will go as fast as I shift and floor the pedals :)

I am not sure if or when I will change my pulley but lower will also reduce chance of slippage of belt.My change will be down the road some.
Waltman, you are refering to underdrive pulleys on a N/A engine. We are refering to pulley swaps that will gain boost.Gains of 50 RWHP not 5-8 like on your past Mustang.Just clarifying for you.

i have the 3.10 upper. i didn't want to get to crazy with an upper pulley(like a 2.80). great HP gain. i'm kinda lucky b/c my friend does all of my warranty work. if i didn't have this luxury i wouldn't risk it. it's something to think about before you modify.

Find a mod friendly Dealer. Ask what they will let you do to the car.

Underdrive pullies reduce rotational mass, adding gains in power on the top.

> He said that it would void the warranty with the blower pulley and the underdrive would not.

Not true. Ask if your dealer supports the notion of underdrive pullies. Your question will be answered.

Regarding blower pullies, it is all a matter of how much risk you want to take. Also keep in mind that if you swap out your blower pulley, you will also need an aftermarket performance chip to regulate A/F and spark advance. Throw in a set of properly gapped plugs to ward of detonation as well.

ox03-

What plugs do you recommend?

Changed the upper pulley been in for waranty work no one even knew the pulley had been changed. If they did they did not say anything. The 03 motor is built realy strong and I personaly don't see any problems with the engine from the increase of boost.

Would someone expand on the the spark plug gap issue!

I'm planning on a +4 pulley, Bassani cat X-pipe and Bassani catback system, CAI, Diablo chip. I think I understand all this from everyones comments, but I missed the spark plug tips!

Thanks for your help!
