Tell me terminator, what do you like about the steeda shifter? Is it easier to reach?

I am a tall person and have my seat all the way back, the stock shifter was hard to throw into 1st, 3rd and 5th, the Tri-Ax has greatly improved this, even mounted in the shortest throw position (you have two handle mount choices), it is still a little of a stretch but much better.

The shifts are much cleaner and quicker, no more ratchet feel and I also like the added assurance of the stops during aggressive shifting. The unit seems very well built.

The downside of this shifter for a lot of people is that you hear the transmission, if the instructions didn’t warn of some of the sounds I would hear I may have thought my tranny was bad ;). My Wife says I need to fix that noise, personally I like hearing it, it’s similar to the whine and tranny sounds from inside a race car. Really it isn’t that bad, more noticeable at slower speeds, plus nothing a little radio volume doesn’t take care of. The instructions say that you can take off the rubber boot from the original shifter and stretch it on the Tri-Ax to reduce the noise but it says that this boot along with the rubber shock reducers on the stock handle is what contributed to the bad shifting characteristics of the stock unit. For me performance and function is first so I did not install this extra boot.

I wish I would have changed my shifter in my 97 GT, I am very happy with this mod and the install took about 30 minutes (taking my time).

Hope this helps, if you need more info I would be happy to provide it.

To add to that, I combined my Steeda shifter with a MGW handle and angled the handle back towards me even further. Now the handle is much closer than before.

Thanks j card I may try that.

With the MGW handle you can adjust the angle? Cool. I am pretty happy now, but for the price of the MGW it may be worth a try.

I may just go with the Tri Axe handle since I only care about the reach. Steeda has it for $30.
