The clutch, at 88,000 miles, finally gave out on my '96. It gave us about three weeks of mild noise first and politely went out in a nice large convenient parking lot instead of a highway so I guess It could have been a lot worse :) But now I want to upgrade since I have to do it anyway. I'm leaning toward a Centerforce 2 but one shop said that the pedal effort was worse than stock ( even though the Centerforce site says stuff to the contrary ). Anyone have any experience with that? I don't mind the stock clutch effort but I don't think I want to deal with a lot more on a daily basis. My other question regards the flywheel. I'd guess this is the best time to upgrade that as well, but I don't know a lot about them. Any suggestions? Thanks : ) Mike

Depending on how you use your car a stock assembly may be the least expensive way out.
That being said. Upgrade to the 11", '99 kit. 10 % larger clutch and flywheel. Bolt In.
Ford MotorSport P/N: M-7060-C46 It's around $300.00.
I don't recall if the T/O bearing comes with it. But you need to change that too.
Good luck,

Thanks for the reply Mike : )
Yeah we knew stock would be cheaper, but at this point we are considering keeping it a few more years now and we'd like to start exploring mods to keep it updated. I figured the higher end ( um, lower to middle higher end : ) kit would give me a little more flexibility with future mods in mind, and, a better clutch setup.
Never thought of going up year on the clutch kit - I'd a guessed that there would be compaibility issues. I will check on that.
But do you think that's as good a move up as the Centerforce2 ?
Regarding the flywheel.. should I look to upgrade beyond what would come with the clutch kit? Aluminum? Would it make a signicant difference?
Thanks, Mike Skelton

I haven't got into the clutch yet. 44K on the ODO.(that's a first for me to get passed 10K)
The upgrade is for the 96 to 98.
I don't know for sure about aluminum flywheels on an N/A car with our power. I know the '03 uses one, but it has close to 400 HP out the rear wheels.
Your flywheel may be able to be turned, but if there are any cracks, or burn marks it may be best to just replace it.
I've heard about the Spec 2 clutch, and a different Spec pressure plate.
Centerforce is a good clutch. I had a '93 Ranger, and replaced the clutch. It was the exact same pressure plate as Ford, and the disc was Ford on one side, and the "pucks" that Centerforce used on the other side. Price for that assembly was the same.
Decisions decisions.
