Got our letter today from Ford SVT for the chrome wheels. I will be calling dealer tomorrow to place the order. Hope they come in before snow flys otherwise I will have to wait till April to have them installed as the Cobra will be in storage.

I just received my letter last night. Of course, the letter said the orders will be prioritized by vehicle purchase date. Hmmm, 6-28-02, wonder how far down the list I am. :wtf:

BTW, did 03cobras start VIN's ending with F300000?

Got my letter last night. It says, "Orders will be prioritized by vehicle purchase date."

So, I bought mine on 6/28/02, wonder how long of a wait I am in for.

On a similar note, did 03 cobras start the VIN with the last part F300000?
:wtf:

Darn, double posted. Sorry.

Matt...According to info I have, approx 100 sets of wheels will be available weekly, beginning 11-4-02. Since the first Cobra deliveries were (I believe) in mid-May, you shouldn't have to wait too long. I would get my order in ASAP with the dealer. BTW, my purchase date was 6-11 and I have not received a letter yet. Hopefully, it's "in the mail."

VINs for all 03 Mustangs are F300000. Cobras are built sequentially with other Mustangs, but production on the 03 Cobra started in May and normal 03 Mustang production started in August. Therefore, from May to commencement of production for the 03 Mustang in August, "most" 03s built between those times were Cobras. My VIN ends in F00351. That doesn't necessarily mean that was the 351st Cobra built because there would have been some regular 03 Mustangs built prior for testing, press, etc. :cbra: :cbra: :cbra:

I appreciate the fax offer, but I have a sample copy of the letter. You are probably correct in the Dec/Jan assumption. BTW, I noticed the Semper Fi:tmb: Thanks for the contribution!!:cbra: :cbra: :cbra:

Well I guess since I started this post I should add what has happened today. Called my SVT Dealer & they didn't know what I was talking about. Give them info & they said they called Ford & Ford told them they also don't know anything about the letter or rims. WHAT IS GOING ON ??

Then called the Saleman that we bought the Cobra from & he wanted a copy of the letter. Faxed it to him & haven't heard a thing from him all day. Did Ford put the cart before the horse?

Ditto here. I called today and no one at the dealership knew what was going on. I faxed the letter over and my guy there said he hopes to get back to me tomorrow. We'll see.

 Wow...how disappointing some dealers don't pay close attention to the communications that come from Ford. If your dealer is unaware of how to order, claim the refund, etc., tell them to pull Electronic Field Communication EFC0201471DC dated 10-24-02. The Parts Department is who needs the info, not Service or Sales. The communication is lengthy but gives the dealer absolutely all of the information they need to order the wheels, and tells them exactly how to handle situations where the customer either wants to send the original four wheels back, or keep them, etc., etc.

If your dealer cannot come up with this communication, get me their Parts Department's fax number and a point of contact and I will be happy to fax them a copy. Get them on the ball...SVT customers need to be taken care of properly!!:D :cbra: :cbra: :cbra:

Does anybody know what they are going to do with all the used wheels they get back? Somebody connected to FORD has to be reselling them.

I want a used set for $240! What a deal! I would be willing to pay $400 for a set! Anybody want to sell theirs'!!!

Yeah, if anybody knows the official 'recycle' plan, I would love to know the details!

Purchased date: 6/22 3550 miles!:wtf:

After my Chrome wheels are installed I'll be selling the stock Cobra wheels myself. Could be next March or April though as the wheels are on order now & may take a while to get in according to dealer. Don't really think many will be giving the wheels back to Ford on the buy-back policy at only $240 a set. Don't look for Ford to have too many sets traded in

I received the letter on Wednesday, 11/20, but I'm not going to get them because I think chrome wheels on any vehicle give it a cheesy look. YMMV.

I am already driving around on my chrome wheels.

My dealer ordered them on the first day and I had them 1 week later.

I think the stuff about getting them in the order of your cars delivery is BS.

I still have not received my letter

And,

They look GREAT:tmb:

I just received a call from the dealer. My chrome wheels are in and ready for pickup. That's less than two weeks. Of course, they are going in storage at my place until the spring. :)

Something I don't understand about the program...?

Does everyone with an 03 get the letter, or only if they were optional equipment on your sticker?

everyone gets the letter. It is optional if you wish to act on it.

I read that some of you were having problems with dealership intel on the rims. My dealer called me and told me that Ford was going to be sending me a letter. So the info is out there, its just whether the dealership is on top of their game.

Question for those who have gotten their rims already:
Did the new rims come with new center caps or did they swap them out?

XFIRECHIEF

No the chromes didn't come with new inserts. I am looking for the Cobra Snake inserts. Found a place that sells the Snake inserts for $64 a set. I'll keep looking for them at a little lower price. Cobra is in storage till spring anyways.

XFirechief:

When I bought a set of genuine cobra wheels for my old stang from the Ford dealer, the inserts were available seperately from the dealer. I think the price for the set was ~$35. I have one I will send you free if I can find it. (Had to replace one rim) PM me if you want it.

What is this? Did you guys originally order chrome, or is ford, out the goodness of their hearts, offering 03 Cobra owners shiney wheels?

Haven't received any letter from ford on this. My service mgr said he's heard customers talking, but nothing from ford.

can anyone scan and post this letter?

The 2003 Cobras were suppose to have as a option chrome wheels. The Company that was to supply them to Ford was not able to produce them on time. Ford shipped out the cars with the stock rims because they wanted to get them out to us.
I understand that 250 sets became available so Ford sent letters to the 1st 250 produced Cobra owners asking if we wanted the chrome wheels. If we did, we were to take the letter to our SVT Dealer & they would order the rims. Not everyone wants them so they will send out more letters when they have more wheels available.
I have them on now & they are worth the $920 + tax more.

Ford offers you $240 for the 4 old ones. I sold mine for 2+ times that & had plenty of offers too.

I got my letter about 2 weeks ago. Build date 8/16/03. It only took a week for them to arrive. Ordered Cobra center caps at the same time. We match balanced and road forced them. Played with them for awhile to allow for stick on weights to be hidden behind the spokes. Wow they look even better than I hoped. I had people lined up to buy the old wheels. Sold them for 4 hundred. I could have gotten more. The old wheels retail for 360$ each. The chromies retail for 569$ each. Four new chrome wheels for 500$ not bad! Awesome.:D :cbra:

I'll pass on the chrome wheels. With my luck I may regret it.

I'll never forget the day my ex picked up my old stang after they installed new wheels and tires. She called me and said "the car is here, but I parked to close to the curb, soooo...". :bash:

Have had my new wheels on for about 3-4 weeks but have yet to drive with them as Cobra is in storage till spring. But, they really look sharp. Wasn't sure either but since i had them put on they are worth the $$$. Also got the chrome letters for the rear bumper but haven't put them on yet. Bought the good ones as they should complement the wheels. Held them up on the bumper & they should be great. Can't wait till May.
