OK, I used to lease an '85 Mustang GT, but for the past 15 years I've been the proud owner of an '89 Mustang LX 5.0 Sport hatchback. "Beastie" and I have seen a lot of good times and hard miles together - 224K at last check - and she's still going strong.
So are LX 5.0 owners allowed to play here too?

Being a GT/Lightning/Focus owner never kept me from torquing off the Cobra guys, so my vote says Have at it!

SHHHHH! Don't tell anyone, but I'm a chapter officer and I don't even own an SVT product!
Initially there was quite a debate on how to handle non-SVT owners who wanted to join the SVTOA. In the end, they opened it up to us without restriction and I'm proud to say I'm part of the group.
I think the most important requirement for an SVTOA member is an enthusiasm for Ford powered cars. And let's face it, with the amount of quality aftermarket parts available for the Mustang, it's relatively easy to build a car that can compete with the SVT offerings.
I personally concentrated on making my 92 LX a road track car. And I've been known to push a Cobra or two around the road courses.
I've kept the motor stock, (120,000 miles with no rebuild) eliminated a lot of weight and unnecessary accessories (A/C, emissions, etc.) and put on a free flowing exhaust. Then I made modifications to the suspension so it will handle better. The only stock suspension components that remain are the A arms. This car really allows me to carry speed through the turns and therefore I can keep up with cars that have a significant horsepower advantage on me.
I've been very happy with my little old LX. So, please don't be discouraged about not owning an SVT product. And if anyone sneers at you, make sure you make a point to dust them at the track!

Hey, Chucko, Welcome!
Alot of these SVTOA people started out owning LXs and GTs. Myself for one, owned a '78 Mustang II hatch, '87 GT hatch and an '89 LX trunk. I was lucky enuf to find a '98 Cobra vert sitting in the lot of a nearby dealer and my dreams were answered. ;)
So, join in and enjoy.:D

Hello my 5.OL brother and welcome. My wife and I own, show and race a 1991 LX 5.0L titanium frost coupe and a 1982GT with a 450hp 347 stroker. We became SVT owners last year with the purchase of our 5th Ford, a 2002 Sonic Blue Focus SVT. The focus will out brake and out handle our two 'stangs anyday but doesn't have the grunt and "just try to pass on the double line" factor. My wife and her '91 coupe were featured in Nov.02's "Mustang Ladies" edition of Muscle Mustangs &Fast Fords. Again,WELCOME!

My understanding all that is required to join SVTOA is ownership of any product produced under the FORD umbrella. IE: FORD MAZDA JAGUAR VOLVO ASTON MARTIN ETC....
I dont own an SVT vechile and I joined

Yeah, but we kicked off all those guys with Aston Martin in their sigs in favor of more thread time to the LX guys.
Welcome. I started off with a 85 GT then 88 GT, 89 GT, 99 GT vert and now a 03 Cobra vert. I say the more the merry. So just jump right in.:bna

I'm just glad I'm not the only one one here stomping around under the GT nomenclature...
