I rec'd an email the other day from a guy offering me $19,000 for my car. I had to reply that this was wayy lower then even wholesale and that I would not even consider less than $29,000 with the mods, the wheels and the paint job. To my surprise, the guy emails me back today and accepts the $29k, asking me to forward shipping prices to Lagos, Nigeria that a "senator wants the car for his daughter". Has anyone else gotten any emails like this? The only place he could have found out about my car was on this website. I am fairly sure this is a joke but wouldn't it be strange if it was real? Opinions please!

WARNING!!!
I predict the next e-mail will say: "Please provide us with your bank account number so that we can make a direct transfer of funds into your account"

Then they clean out your bank account.

Nigerian scam e-mail hoxes are rampant on the web. I get these goofy ones that are all similar- they talk about a revolt where some group has millions of dollars that was looted from the national trust, and now these poor souls need a safe place to put the money! So all you have to do is give us your bank routing numbers and we will deposit the money in your account, and you get to keep 20%!!!! So please send us your bank info right away!!"

Run, do NOT walk, away from this as fast as you can! Unless the guy is going to send you an International Money Order, up front and including shipping, I would have NOTHING to do with this!

No, on second thought, I wouldn't even do it then! They could play games with some local bank and stop the funds on the Money Order or something.

Thought you all might find this interesting also, as I have "spam assassin". This program actually references "Nigerian Scam" because so many of these float around the web.
Notice also that "Johnathan" is using a cloaked e-mail address?

Well, I have to say that it looks too good to be true right off the bat. Secondly, this statement:

THIS IS BY VIRTUE OF IT`S NATURE AS BEING UTTERLY CONFIDENTIAL AND TOP SECRET

Would clue me in pretty well due to the background of my employment. Confidential and top secret are two different classification levels in any country, even Nigeria. Secondly, if it was really that secret and serious, it would not come in an unsecured email. You would most likely get a formal letter amd legal documentation.

I'm glad someone popped the bubble for him. Especially since you can get more by just selling your car to someone here in the states. I always try to approach any offer I get on the Internet with severe skepticism. It's always better to expect the worst in dealing with the Internet. That way, you are never shafted or dissappointed, just pleasantly surprised! ;)

On a side note, when I was in school, there was a member of a high ranking family in Bahrain in my classes with me. He had actually purchased items from people around the world in the manner mentioned above. He said it was not an easy thing to do, require piles of paperwork and import/export clearances and so on and so forth. He did buy a small sports car from a guy in England. I do not remember what it was but he said that the lawyers in his country made him document everything.

I guess Greg blew the confidentiality of the transaction that these Yahoo's wanted.

I will too. I get those letters all the time. I keep the stamps. They are nice for the collection.lol

I think 10 years ago Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes did a report on this.

Before you all assume I am a total bonehead that falls for anything, I too get those Nigerian bank emails each day. This was different as the guy described my car to a "T" and then replied when I answered his first email. Deep down I felt it was a bunch of hooey but it was a unique twist on an otherwise boring day. It did get me thinking about what color my 03 was gonna be!
