Hey guys my buddy just bought a new svt focus. He came from a volkswagen background and needs some help getting some mods. He should have his svtoa membership soon but any input I could relay to him would be great.

Thanks
Brandon

I bought a cold air intake for my SVT Focus. It's great! :tmb: Read my post called "Aem Cai" for info. on that. :tmb:

Of course he might want to go all out and get the Jackson Racing supercharger. (By the way I can't wait to hear from someone who has installed this). There's also some other stuff like computer chips, exhausts and etc.. I don't think there is an incredible amount of mods yet. Keep in mind these cars haven't even been on the streets for a year.

Oh by the way, I don't think you need a membership to participate in this website. Maybe you need a membership to get into the SVT Focus section? You should tell him to go ahead and register on the message board. Then when he gets his SVTOA membership in the mail he will will get all of the other benfits.

have your friend drive his car a while and break it in good first....then if he still thinks he needs to mod then fine. Adding mods for the sake of modding is not exactly a wise thing for this car since it is so tuned form the factory that some mods can and do hurt performance....in particular be extremely careful messing with the exhaust as I've heard some mechanics say it is pretty much perfect to begin with. Emissions are VERY tricky with this car, and messing with flow control can really screw it up....blowing o2 sensors, etc.

That's a very good point inteller! I drove my car like an old lady for the first 1000 miles, before changing the oil and breaking it in. (Then I read in the owners manual that they recommend waiting 5000 miles before upgrading to fully synthetic. oops!) I think I had about 15,000 mi when I put the intake on.

I've had people ask me, "So when are you going to put an exhaust on here?" Of course that's before they hear how bad @$$ it sounds. SVT did an excellent job on the exhaust. I agree (again) that no modifications are necessary for the exhaust. However if you feel otherwise, there are some aftermarket options out there.

You guys probably don't even know what winter is down there in Oklahoma, but I would recommend trying to wait at least until the spring/summer before he make any modifications. I only drive as a form of transportation in these upcoming winter months here (unless I'm in a 4x4). :bna That's ok though, because now we have all winter to discuss what we want to modify on our cars! :bna

well, I know what summer is like with an SVTF...it sucks....SVT Focuses HATE hot humid weather. My car has turned into a beast with this crisp fall air. It was chuggin HARD this summer.....not fun. I've only started really enjoying my car lately.

Trust me I know what the hot and cold can do. My 98 vortech supercharged cobra detonated like a son of a gun when it got cold since we spend most of our year in hot humid ****. My Lightning is just as bad but doesnt have near as many mods as the cobra. I will let him know this info. I think he is planning on getting some looks put into it rather than go until later.

Thanks again,
Brandon

well from a purists point of view, it would be really silly to do anything that might change the unique SVT Focus look. I've seen some guys completely alter the appearance of their SVT Focus and all I gotta say is that if it's any look that a ZX3 can do I wouldn't mess with it.
