New suspension for me!
A couple weeks ago I picked up a set of Granatelli upper/lower control arms for my '97. Ordered the Eibach pro-kit springs from Dallas Mustang today, everthing in stock over there is on sale for 10% off till 12/15 (SVTOA discount is only 5%). Still haven't decided on shocks/struts yet.
How about everyone else!

DAAAAAMN, I'd have to rob a bank to pay for all that. Whats the SHM 575 longblock all about. I'm assuming it's a stroked version of your current DOHC with forged internals that's good for 575HP. Why did you choose the SHM over DSS in St.Charles? Heard nothing but good things about the mafterburner, especially with the '03 guys.

Ya, it's costing a bunch, but this is a car I'm keeping for a long time, so what the hell. The 575 isn't a stroked version, it's basically our block(punched .020 over) with all forged internals (balanced). They use all ARP fasteners and rings designed for nitrous/blower applications. The heads are messaged a bit and the cams are supposed bring alot to the table. The reason I went with SHM was due to the way Scott (sales guy at SHM) gave me all the info. I've been looking into this for about six weeks or so. SHM deals mainly with the 4V, that's it. DSS doesn't seemed to be as focused on this engine. Also, the guys at Kenny Brown highly reccomended Sean and they've seen alot of his work. :DI'm excited to get this back!!Not excited about paying the bill :(
BTW. Scott at SHM is a wealth of knowledge and if anyone is interested in mods for this engine, give him a call! (519)421-2291.

Our 97 Cobra won't get much winter work besides some TLC. It was in a minor wreck last year and the paint needs worked on to get the swril marks out. I may also clean and paint the top hats. While the wheels are off I'll clean the undercarriage.
My real projects will be the old ponies. Our 65 is getting a new engine. The current one only has 1200 miles on it but we want more performance and to detail the engine compartment. We are also adding a 355 POSI rear end, a Shelby Fiberglass Hood with scoop and a Shelby front valance. The 66 will get an updated dual master cylinder unit and maybe a carb rebuild. It has a new 355 open rear end and really runs well with it.
Our big effort is going on 2 years and that is a 68 Shelby GT500 KR Convertible Replica. It is ready for finish work and should hit the streets next summer.

I plan to finally get my boost and fuel pressure gages installed. Other than that some TLC, with my new found Meguiars products and new brakes all around. Hope we can get a tech session at our next chapter meeting in January. Maybe on proper instalation of BRAKES.

Any luck finding some "saddle" colored spray paint for that gauge pod Jim? What kind of brakes pads are you planning on using?
Finally decided on shocks today. Was torn between Tokico 5-way adjustable Luminas and Bilsteins. Got the Bilsteins on sale at shox.com
Wondering if I should order some offset rack bushings while I'm at it. I sure don't want to mess with anything after I have a alignment.

Well I finished up my suspension a couple a weeks ago, everything has settled and I'm happy with how it looks, though I think 18" wheels are out of the picture in the future. Just gotta wait till warm weather so I can get a front end alignment. Overall, it was pretty easy due to the straight axle, don't think I would attempt the IRS setup.
I'll post some pics as soon as I find some software to shrink them so they're small enough to post here;)

Awesome projects !!
Our current project is Tim's '99 Cobra --
it is down at Kenny Brown right now getting the finishing touches on some mod's ....
We are also going to put a Cervini's hood on it with the functional ram air.
We are also stripping the insides - we have new Tenzo race seats, a cage from Kenny Brown that we will be installing - Schroth harnesses, Baer Brakes...
looking for a brake cooling duct ...
any suggestions?

Hi Rick!
Were not too far away from you !!
We had a 65 this past summer fastback 2x2 -
We sold it in the fall after we were done shining it up -- we just bought it as a project car.
It was fun to drive and a good solid car.. just had occassional electrical problems - like the lights going out at night for no apparent reason... :D then going back on again...
It was fun -- but I like the reliability of my SVT's ...
We'd like to get a 69 or 70 Mach someday as a project car....
heres a picture of the 65!

FRPP sells the 2000 Cobra R brake ducts with the carbon fiber back plates, it's not cheap....but is the best set-up IMO.

Thanks for the reply. Great picture and story about the electrical problems on your 65. I can get the radio to play without the key being turned on if I push on the brakes in our 65 and if turn the lights on in my wife's 66 without the key being on the wipers will work. Go figure! . The engine is about ready to come out of our 65. :bna Many of the old parts have been sand blasted and restored. The new block is a 1968 302 bored 30 over and has a 289 crank. It is now a 292. Based on the cam, domed pistons, intake and carb combination we are anticipating about 350 Flywheel HP. We'll dyno it when done.
You are correct on the dependability of the new ones. It is great to jump in the 97 Cobra and just drive with no worries!
Spring is just around the corner and I plan to be ready for the Pony Trails and Spring Fling in Nashville IN in May with both cars.

do you have more information on those two events?
Also, to add to the story -- my husband had a 70 Mach I when we met - we sold it after we married.
The funny thing was -- it was a pretty reliable car, but it used to die for absolutely no reason (well, at least in my opinion)
in the middle of the night when we were both suppossed to be home.....
we were on the side of the road a few times.
Sometimes - the lights used to go out, especially when we were heading somewhere where we both had to go - but neither of us really wanted to go...
:tmb:
Hey - maybe we could meet up sometime this year -- my son would love to see your "baby" !!
how long have you had your Rio red cobra?
Thats one of my favorite colors!:)

My wife and I have gone 3 times to the Spring Fling and last year my 24 year old son drove our Cobra while we drove her 66 GT. He got hit by a Dodge Pick Up in during the Pony Trails. Now that is an interesting story. The event is 3 days starting on Friday with a Pony Trails. Jeff Ford, Editor Mustang Monthly, is the lead guy for the Pony Trails that starts at the show site, Brown County State Park. He is a riot. The first year we went to Kenny Brown's shop and had a tour and lunch. In 2001 we went to Shelbyville Indiana and we had a Police Escort into town and a 2 hour car show in the center of town. Last year we went to Madison Indiana and had the same 2 hour car show. The car show is Saturday with a great lunch and fun banquet. Plenty of Mustang enthusiasts to meet. There are usually at least a dozen people from the Chicago area at the show. The last day is a road rally. We have never stayed for the road rally. My wife and I love this show. The State Park is beautiful and we meet lots of great people.:tmb: I have tried to organize a caravan to the show the last two years through the Stallions Gate Club but have not had any luck.
I see you are going to put the functional Cervini Ram Air Hood on your car. I love mine. Be sure to paint the inside of the ram air kit before you seal it to the hood. We had to spray ours through the little holes on the air intakes. I've had the Cobra since it was new in 97. It is a great car and lots of fun.
I would love to get together and show your son the cars. We have an 8 car garage and it has 5 Mustangs in it right now. 4 are ours. We live in Winfield IL. Send me an email and we can share info. Do you do the local shows? There is a big Mustang event at Route 66 this year and the Fun Ford Weekend in September at Cordova is great too.
How do you embed the pictures? When I click on image it gives me a strange message to format text http://. What the heck is that about?
Take care,
Rick

cool -
I'm going to check that event out - sounds like something we'd love!!
Also -
can I rent some space --
got room for another 'Stang? :D
were going to move next year as soon as Tom graduates from high school - but right now, were tight!
Need a smaller house - bigger garage.
The lift helps - but with our daughter and son in law living here -- we look like a used car parking lot.
Theres no room to add on to our house -- er, should I say, our garage...
were gonna move towards your way eventually - maybe slightly south and west.....

As our winter projects hit high gear I was wondering how many SVT owners like me have focused only on the hands efforts related to things like detailing and research part of owning a Mustang and not the heavy lifting like pulling an engine or changing the heads. Even though I worked at a gas station outside of Detroit in the late 60s my actual doing it experience is pretty much limited to tires and oil changes. :)
I am working with a professional to do a project on our 65 Mustang in my garage. We have a newly machined and bored 302 1968 block on an engine stand and it is being rebuilt in my garage to replace the 289 in the 65. I have the engine compartment pretty well cleaned out in the 65 and we are almost ready to pull the block and start the restoration and detailing work in the engine compartment.
If you are interested in seeing how an engine comes out drop me an email and I'll let you know when we are going to do the actual removal. To the true gear head who has done this a bunch of times I am sure this is second nature and maybe boring but I think there are many of us who are not sure :wtf: what it takes to pull an engine.
I'm in Winfield.
