I've had my 03 Cobra for almost one year. I'm thinking about putting one of the hi-performance chips in. I don't know anything about these.
I'm a professional computer geek, so from what I've seen on the various internet sites, the installation is easy. But my main concern is the reliability of these chips. Also, does the installation of a chip void the warranty?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

It's not a matter of mere installation, but rather tuning. To get it right, it really should be tuned on the Dyno, and changes to the chip made there to get the correct air/fuel ratio. Mine is pretty modded, and it took Danny swanson (the best here in Cali) 4 passes to get it dialed in. As for the warranty, it depends who you talk to, but my guess any catastrophic engine failure will result in a Ford rep reading the PROM chip, and no doubt they will clearly see it was burned. Regardless, the power gains can be substantial on a high-boost car. The chip netted me 23 SAE HP and even more torque from before the chip was installed, and a host of other benefits. Do it at your own risk, and make sure you are conservative on the A/F ratio. I could have had Danny dial in more power, but I was wanting to play it safe with 91 octane. Hope this helps.

I have talked to several dealerships regarding the chip and their answers were that if a problem arose due to the chip then there would not be any warranty coverage. However if there was a problem, say to the door hinges failing, or something to that effect it would be covered. Anything that the chip affects, mainly the engine, would not be covered. Hope this helps.
