Greetings SVTOA members...
Part of being a member of The Ford SVTOA is getting the discounts that are offered by some of the major aftermarket companies that cater to our market. These discounts can be substantial and can actually pay for your yearly membership and more in the way of returns.

One of our sponsors is DISCOUNT TIRE DIRECT (http://www.discounttiredirect.com)

Being an avid drag racer and "John Force Imitator" when I do my burnouts at the strip, I tend to go thru a lot of tires with my 347 powered 1994 Cobra. Since it's time for new set of drag radials, I figured now would be a good time to put one of our sponsors to the test. What we want to be sure of, is that our sponsors are honoring the discounts that are supposed to be available to our membership.
With that said, I made the call to Discount Tire Direct, and inquired about a set of 17" Nitto drag radials. After being quoted a price for the tires, I then mentioned that I was an SVTOA member. Without hesitation, I was told that I would be getting $11.00 off each tire, for a savings of $22.00
Granted, $22.00 is not a ton of money, but the fact is, I needed these tires, and SVTOA member or not, I would have bought them, so to me, I just recouped $22.00 of the membership fee I paid to belong to SVTOA. (I was a paying member BEFORE I became the SVTOA Webmaster)

I think that most of us here are into racing to some degree- be it on the twisties or the dragstrip or both. I am posting this to make sure that you folks know that we SVTOA members do get a better price on wheels, tires, suspension parts or whatever is offered for sale at Discount Tire Direct then the general public does.

After placing my order, I was able to speak to Todd Holzwarth in Customer Service regarding the SVTOA discount. Todd was kind enough to point out, that although the person I spoke with on my initial inquiry was aware of the SVTOA discount, not all the sales people are aware of the discount. He did mention that although they were working to educate the order department staff regarding the SVTOA discount, Todd asked that in order to make sure that you get the proper discount, you call his direct line. The number to contact Todd is (888) 459-4080
Todd will personally see to it that you are treated well and get the discount that you are entitled to.

No doubt some of you will figure that by calling Todd directly, this will tip him off in some way and he will perhaps quote a higher price for the tires and then "discount" them down to the regular price. However, it is easy to make an inquiry to the regular order line, and not mention SVTOA, and be quoted a price for a set of tires. You could then call the other number and ask for the discount.

Granted, since Discount Tire Direct is a sponsor of ours, my "review" could be seen as a biased attempt to make a sponsor look good. I am here to tell you all that I am a straight shooter and I wanted a chance to see what one of you might experience by calling one of our sponsors and seeing how things go. They had NO way to know who was on the other end of the line, to them I was just another voice in that regard. They passed my "test" with flying colors.

I am sure that many of you need or will need new tires in the near future. Why pay full price? Take advantage of the discount that you have coming! Call DISCOUNT TIRE DIRECT!!

Just so everyone will know, recently I needed a set of wheels to mount drag radials on. After much research, I decided that the Steeda Ultralights would be the way to go. I called and placed an order for 2 of their 17x9 silver Ultralights, and mentioned the SVTOA discount. I was immediately given 10% off (approximately $40) which at least paid the shipping. Like Greg said, not a whole lot of money, but add that $40 to $22 for tires, and it starts to add up! :tmb:

Thanks for this info Greg. I've known about the sponser program, but have not used it yet.
Now I have and idea of what discount to expect. I'll check the local dealer first, but know that a potential of $44.00 is available.

Mike
