I think that a more centralized event may produce a greater attendance. P-burgh looks like a good track, but it's pretty far away for the New England crowd. Also, when would the announcement come out? A lot of us had burned our vacation time even before the announcement of the Beaver Run event.

i think we will know sooner than later this year
but obviously an event at the glen would be huge for the region
i don't think we can expect regional events to be convenient for everyone and that is understanble
beaverun had people drive over 8 hours to get there
also, you have to remember that this was the first event for the region
things can only get better:D

True, but perhaps an official poll of interested members via the magazine (since a lot of folks don't have internet access or don't know of this board) would be appropriate. Send a tear-off postage paid post card out in the mag next issue...

The Glen would be an excellent place to hold an Eastern track event....if we can get the track....I know that they renew the contracts of those who've rented in the past, so its tuff getting in, unless the SVTOA can buy out another club's event, or do a weekday event, but that limits the amount of attendees....some people just don't take time off during the week to go to the track....Keep me posted, especially if a date becomes available....I'll help where I can, and I can get instructors if needed....

My second choice would be Beaver Run....with more/earlier publicity and a better date, I think it would be successful....

Ken, The only dates available for Watkins Glen during 2004 our October 20&21 which is a Wednesday/Thursday. Lime Rock is booked solid already.

late october in upstate NY is as unpredictable as PA weather, and a mid week event is almost certainly asking for disaster....I really think we should look at may - sept for our area (anywhere in the northeast) because of weather and people's availability of vacation days....they are less likely to have vacation time available after the summer, plus school starts around labor day, etc....
although I wasnt able to make Beaver Run, I did hear positive feedback about the event and facility....could we get a better date in '04 ???
any other tracks ???

I am in touch with the following tracks regarding dates as we speak:
Beaverun
Watkins Glen
Pocono
VIR
Summit Point
Englishtown
New Hampshire International
And as already stated Lime Rock is out.
Do you know of any other tracks?

I think that about covers the tracks in the northeast....imo, pocono and nhis arent very challenging....nascar tracks with internal road courses usually arent....so we should prioritize the true road courses....
I'm anxiously awaiting completion of Raush Creek's road course, Alan Wilson designed, located near Harrisburg, PA

but realistically, completion is a year or two off....the layout looks pretty awesome....

I agree regarding the oval/infield road course tracks. Unfortunately, they might be the only thing that is available on a weekend. You at least understand what is involved regarding renting a track. It appears that some people assume one wakes up on Monday and calls and rents the track for that Saturday. I have talked to the people at Rausch in the past. Do you really believe that this is going to be built? There is also a track north of Philly that is supposed to be built sometmie soon. Beaverun should have the South Course finished by 2005 too. Built a track and they will come. Sounds like the field of dreams.
