View Full Version : New MAF stalls in cold weather

Maybe someone has an idea where to look for a solution to this problem. A couple weekends ago I put on a new C&L MAF unit with it's K&N Filter and shield. Easy install, and ran fine that weekend when I tried it. Since then, when driving under 40~50 degrees, it has a drivability problem. After warming up, if the revs drop suddenly (coming to a stop with clutch in), the revs fall too far and it can stall. If it recovers, it idles fine. Over 60 degrees, it has no problem and runs fine. I also got a CEL twice when cold out. A reset got rid of it, I attribute it to the MAF. Since the sensor works off of reading how much voltage to keep a wire at a certain temp, could this have something to do with it? Never did this before with the stock MAF and air filter. Also, the IAC was replaced this spring and shouldn't be grungy yet. No oil build-up from K&N. Any ideas? Thanks.

 Mine (with the same C&L set up) decided it was going to do that same exact thing today.

How long have you had it, and how cold was it when it happened? You're not, like, in sunny So. Cal., or something, I hope.
Thanks

I know that I have had not problems with my C&L since installed a couple of years ago.

Sometimes the sampling tube on some installs does not pick up the air correctly. Try turning the the meeter some and see what happens.

Thanks for the tip. I did notice that the stock set up didn't have the sensor exactly at the top, like I did with the C&L. I tried rotating it to match the stock position last week, and while the jury's still out, it's been ok since then.
Greg-keeping my fingers crossed.

check your idle air bypass valve
clean it if necessary
