Just had my Tranny replaced at 27K...syncros and throwout were shot. I have a friend with a 98 Cobra having the same problem at 51,000 miles. Anyone else had problems with this tranny? I am afraid to drive it hard...my warranty is expired now!

I've Broken @ of these in a 96 cobra I used to own.I just got a 97 w/2500 miles on it & I intend to switch to a tremes or t-56 immediately!! You may want to try an aftermarket shifter which may help a little. If you need another trans, let me know via email;. Thanks!

I bought my '97 with 46,000k miles and the dealer said they put a new tranny in it. The guys who do the performace mods on my Mustangs said that an aftermarket shifter should be your first purchase on one of these Cobras. He said it will save you from damaging your tranny. I also drove a '96 in Dallas last spring and the gears were grinding in it too. I'ver read that it just doesn't stand up to the pounding we put to it.

These trannys don't survive in a normal GT, what made Ford think they would handle a Cobra motor???

I've yet to have a problem in the 5 years I've had my 96 Cobra. Purchased with 28K and now has 46K. I did put a Pro 5.0 shifter in a few years back. I do think the aftermarket shifter with stops helps to perserve these trannies.

Yep blew the syncros in my 89 G.T. That happened in normal driving with little pounding on the car. They were replaced at 30,000 miles and was fine when I sold the car at 89,000 miles. If I still had the car I would probably go to a T56.
