Any one out there have an opinion regarding Pro 5.0 shifters? Any better or worse than Steeda shifters? I have a Steeda in my '96 GT, but was looking into the Pro 5.0 for my Cobra. No real reason other than trying something else. Undecided at this point.

I`m using the pro 5.0 and the MGW handle, stock shift knob. I`m happy with it,.. very quiet, great quality, smooth shifts.

I went for the Pro 5.0 because of the all steel construction.

Hey Norcal,

How`s that Cobra been for you? What new mods do you have? Did you get the Predator?

Also have 5.0 and MGW and spun the stock shifter knob upside down to finally get it where I want it.

I highly recommend the UPR Blue Thunder shifter. Similar to the Steeda Triax, but has the stiffest preload springs of any shifter on the market making it easier to find 3rd.....:tmb:

I'm still using the stock shifter myself. I personally see nothing wrong with it or the spring load on 3rd & 4th. I hit what I aim for 95% of the time and I don't think an aftermarket will help me any.

Mongoose,
Have you tried driving a friend's 03 with a different shifter? If you get the opportunity don't pass it up. If you ever get out the Fort Bragg way and I'll hook you up!

Mongoose, an aftermarket shifter makes a HUGE difference. Shifting the gears feels like slicing a hot knife through butter.

-norcal_cobra Until I get a chance to actually try one, I'll prolly just keep what I got. Course I am gettin older and them gears may get harder to hit :D

That's 5% of the time your grinding gears or missing shifts! Go with an aftermarket shifter. The only thing you might not like is the added noise. It makes a huuuuge difference! :tmb:

I have to agree with Mongoose. Practice practice guy's.
Use your palm and just push, it always goes in.

Grab it and git it in a hurry to win and I've missed with my Pro 5.0 also. I hate the noise too, it whirrs, and it's too clunky for smooth driving. I have never missed with the PRO 5.0 at the track though, and that's what I paid for I guess, but on the street, you can't be as comfortable as you can at the track so BBGGGGGGGGGGGG, OOOOPS, WILL HAPPEN.

I also installed the Pro-5. Does anyone else have the rattle problem I seem to have?? What can I do to tighten it up??

Rattle problem? Not sure what you mean. Perhaps what you are talking about is the fact that the aftermarket shifters transmit more noise from the transmission due to the elimination of the rubber shifter handle bushings?

I guess the best way to discribe it is it rattles. Its has free play and just plane rattles when going down the road..

Hmmmm... I guess you could try re-torquing all the bolts on the shifter....

Thanks, that was what I thought also. Just wondered if any else had this problem.

Amazon Racing sells the Kirban Kwik-shifter for our T-56. It's supposed to be the shortest of the shifters. This is what I will probably be going with.

I also have installed a Pro50 shifter with a MGW handle. It shifts much more positive and feels so much better. As for the noise the MGW handle comes with a rubber insulater that fits between the handle and the shifter, it takes away almost all of the noise. It is almost as quiet as the stock shifter was.My 01 Cobra I had installed a Steeda shifter it shifted very good but I did'nt like the noise.

Is there a web site that has the MGW handle?

I also have installed a Pro 5.0 shifter with a MGW handle. They work great in combination.
