I wanted to know what company makes the best exhaust system. I would like to get a little more rumble out of my Cobra. I live in California and I want no problems when it comes time to do my annual smog check. I don't mind changing everything from the heads back. However I want it to be all bolt in so I can do it myself (don't want anyone else touching my baby). I want the best quality components I can find. And want it to fit like the factory stuff. Hopefully I can get this done right the first time. Any help would be appreciated.

Per my sig....I'm running a Bassani X and FlowMaster cat back. I installed them myself and they were both a breeze. Exhaust choice is a personal decision. You have to decide which exhaust system SOUNDS best to you. There's typically only a 5-10 hp separation between different systems so don't worry about flow...
I made the mistake of worrying about flow initially and ended up purchasing a Magnaflow cat-back. Hated it. Droned like an SOB. Sounded like a ricer running one of those big fart pipes.
Check out MustangExhaust.com (www.mustangexhaust.com) for what the different systems sound like on an '03 Cobra.

Borla Stinger catback
free flowing, so much so if you install an offroad X pipe, you'll actually lose a pound of boost.
A sound all its own.. It roars when you want it to and is quiet when you want it to be..
Great system and no drone til about 84mph
awesome for around town driving and intermediate hgwy driving

White Snake,
I am running the Bassani stainless catted X-pipe and stainless catback. The quality of the setup is awesome. Plus those 4" chrome tips that are angle cut to follow the contour of the rear bumper look awesome. The sounds is great too with very little drone!

I bought the FRP500. It sounds good to me, but it does drone 1600-2100, so I've learned how to stay in different gears sometimes. It's stupid though cause at 65 in 6th it's droning away so I'l go to 5th but then I just go back and think to myself...."Oh Shut UP Bizach" and I forget about it.
This exhaust is really funny sounding actualy, as you take off it has this aaarrrrooomm, then aaaarrrroooommmm, it's like "how'd I do that " or "is this car singing to me". It's so wierd sometimes.
Sing along now folks,
aaaarrrrroooomm, aaaaaarrrrooooomm, aaaarrrooooommm, aaaaarrrooooom, Isn't this fun now.
My old pipes are going back on one of these days, or maybe I'll just chop some flowmasters into this system, I wonder what that will sound like. I think it's the X that does this.
What I really want is to be able to NAIL IT without a cop hearing me 2 blocks away. I love the sound of long tube headers, and I don't know which new cat back I'l get but, probably the Borla.
I just haven't heard enough, well the Bassani system was definately dual fart can to me, but that's just me. I want the sound of a bad ass V8, not a cackling Camaro, or fart can.
Ju know what I mean Roca?

You want to here a fart can?, my Cobra was purchased with a couple thousand miles on the clock and the previous owner had cut out the mufflers and welded in straight pipes. I can here my car merging on the main highway a mile and a half away when my wife takes it out to the office. I am almost ready to install a complete system, but man have I got some turned heads along the way, one being a 95 crown vic witha light bar on top!

I use the Magna Flow cat-back on my Cobra. I did some sound comparisons on some other 03's and found the Maggies to be just right for me. The sound is mellow and has a nice sound and is not to loud and almost no drone at 2000rpm.I would highly recomend this to any 03 Cobra owner. Also at wot it sounds really awesome. It installed very easy I installed the system at home in about 30 to 45 min. and it fit like a glove.:D

I couldn't agree with you more, with some headers and hi-flo cats and shorty h-pipe, definate muscle car. No X sounding foreign cars allowed.:tmb:

I don't think I could buy a car that was once owned by somebody dumb enough to have cut out the mufflers and put in staight pipes. Wonder what else he did to it?
That's got to sound like **** dude. Hurry up and fix that will ya, your hurting our reputation.

there is nothing wrong with straightpipes, don't get me wrong, it may be louder than some may like but it does increase horsepower for way less than what you pay for an aftermarket catback. I welded stainless 2.5" straightpipes on my vert. Me like, I have also had many compliments.:D

I have the Magnaflow X pipe with cats, flowmaster mufflers, and magnaflow catback. Started with magnflow mufflers and changed them to flowmasters hoping to duplicate the old muscle car sound. realize now that what I need is an H pipe with flow masters. If that does not do the trick, then I plan getting an American thunder catback system. Has anyoone out there been able to duplicate the old 60's 70's muscle car sound? If so, what are you running. I don't want to affend anyone, but the magnaflow system sounds like a cross bread of a rice burner and a NASCAR set up.

For sure an H-pipe will get you closer to your goal of a 'muscle car' sound. But realize too that part of the way a car sounds is the engine itself. These 4v/dohc/efi engines fire a lot differently than a carbeurated, hydraulic cam in block, 2v engine.

In your opinion what do you think this set-up will sound like?
MRT stainless H pipe with no cats, flowmaster 2 chamber mufflers, and a magnaflow catback....
I am trying to duplicate the 60-70' muscle car sound...will this do it?
