It's all in the 60 foot time. 117 MPH should net easy 11's on a sticky tire with a hard launch. If you are on street tires, that's not to bad. If you are on a drag radial, then you could improve that 60 foot time by as much as 1/2 second, which would dip you into the 11's.
Focus on improving your 60 foot time, and the ET will follow along...

I agree tires are critical. Some are able to go to a track with enough prep to make just about any tire do well. Other tracks are not that way. If you want to ensure good grip and good 60 ft times get a pair of Mickey Thompson ET Streets or ET Drags.
Start with the tire pressure at around 20 PSI and drop it down until you get sufficient grip. I run my ET Streets at 12 PSI. My track does not give much better grip than the street. I used BFG Drag radials and the best I could do with those was 2.14. With the MT's, I immediately did a 1.8 and then went into the 1.7 range. Since I have an IRS car I usually only launch at around 3000 rpm. Since these tires grip so well, I have found no special technique is required. I just let the clutch out (not a dump but quickly) and go. A 1.82 or better 60ft with a 117 mph is always an 11 second run for me.

Hey KWLadyKa,
I got the BFG's, I hope they work better than what you say.
I found that starting at about 2-2500RPM and getting the clutch out WITHOUT squating into a spin is getting me 1.9's and 2.0's consistantly so I'm thinking the same will apply with the BFG's and a minor adjustment in RPM's, would you agree? I am thinking that I will be able to hit it at 3000 and cut my 60' to 1.7-1.8.

Some do very well with the drag radials. I hope you will too. There is nothing more frustrating than losing ET times because of traction. Getting good traction with drag radials seems to be easy to do on the eastern side of the US and some other locations but I don't really know why that appears to be the case other than great track prep. Any way, if you can get 1.7 or better 60 ft times with drag radials then I'd say that is all the tire you will need.
On the other hand, a lower profile tire such as the 17" BFG drag radial do not get sidewall wrinkle which with the ET Streets allows for a larger contact patch between the tire and the ground. The bottom line is: the 17" BFG will never have as good traction as a 16" ET Street. However, the lower sidewall of the BFG gives it much better stability as the slicks will have more sway as the car goes down the track.
Also consider how the tire is grabbing on the shifts. On my car I had significant spin between 1-2 and 2-3 shifts using the BFG's. With the ET Streets, I don't hear a chirp. The tires just grab. Another thing I like about using the ET Streets is saving wear the clutch. A lot of people burn out their clutch by slipping it too much, too often. E/T Streets require no slipping of the clutch. I just let it out and go. Over 100 launches now and everything is still solid.
I remember us talking almost a year ago when we found out that is was not so easy even running under 13 seconds! I found my biggest problem was traction. Switching to ET Streets took almost a second off my ET. My best now is an 11.29 corrected time and I could not have done that without these tires. Good luck to you!

thats allmost exactly what I ran in my 03 with some help from php's supercharger snout, 12.49 @119.....my 60' was consistant 2.25-2.26 on stock tires/stock presure. the car was very consistant from 12.49-12.53. I tried a set of my friends nitto's and bam.....ran 11.83 . that was all I wanted was an 11 sec run...I am worried about wear and tear so, dragging is done for awhile.
