I had great fun last year during the American Open Road Racing Series. The Cobra performed so well I felt it was just another Sunday drive. I thought I would pass on some experience in using 1999,2001 SVT Cobras in these events.

1). Cobras are competetive in
Touring (at/under 100mph average; 124mph limit),
Grand Touring (115mph, 120mph & 125mph averages; 140mph limit), and
Grand Sport(130 mph, 135 mph & 140mph averages; 150mph limit).

My stock Cobra was able average 130mph in my first event. I held to the 140mph Grand Touring limit. So a stock Cobra could compete in Grand Sport.

2). Check carefully the safety requirements, so you do not get dropped to a lower speed class/division.

3). Make sure your tires are new enough. I think they must be less than 2 years old.

4). DO NOT BREAK THE IMPOSED SPEED LIMITS. It could make SVTOA look bad, and get you banned from events.

5). Make and bring course notes, and use stop watches to track your progress on the course.

6). 1999,2001 Cobras seem to invoke anti-flee engine control. if you spend alot of time over 130 mph.

7). Be aware that Nevada is very warm. Bring water!

The computer tells the engine to cycle between 110 mph and 100 mph.

Rocket John Butler runs in a fast speed classes, and says it starts to go into anti-flee mode every 10 miles on his car. I run at lower speed levels, and did not notice it as often. It can be a little disconcerting, but some segments ran without an occurance.
