I was reading a new magazine coming out soon at work. Sport compact or something like that but they ranked the 8 greatest 2003 cars under 30 grand. And the svt focus was not one of them. Also while I am ranting on dumb magazines. Motor trend or someone did a article on the Nissan spec v, dodge srt 4 neon, svt focus 5 door, and the mazda protege 5. The focus come in secondon nearly everything. But why the 5 door??????

it came in second because the SRT-4 is a faster car. But think about it. The car placed second and it is the oldest car of the bunch. That says something.

That was Car & Driver. What they said was mostly positive.....SVTF made best use of the space between the bumpers, handling was stellar, interior styling/detail was excellent in the price range, more of an adult pocket rocket. The only negative (and what placed it second) was the lack of power relative to the Neon.

I'm very fortunate in that I get the chance to drive several types of vehcles everyday. I'm a professional auto tech. I've driven all the cars mentioned and the SRT is very fast, the Sentra handles great but when the day is over, the SVTF's all around performance, handling, good looks and interior ergonomics just add up to a better over all vehicle. Some cars are great on test tracks and some are great on real roads. I'll take the SVTF's real road manners.

Something else to chew on...the SRT 4 is Turbo charged if I am not mistaken 215 rwhp....put a turbo of the same boost pressure on a focus and see how they compare...the Focus will still have the selling points that it does now...while leaving a neon srt4 a mear spec on the horizon! :tmb:

Neon Shmee-on.... I was just watching a rally cross championship on SPEED and there were the usual contenders running.
Focus
Lancer
WRX
Etc.

The funniest one running was a 2WD Neon. I was watching it run around the course with sheer amazement.... not really :haha: but then it happened... the right rear wheel (tire and rim) flew off the vehicle.. :jawdrop: HE heh eh hehehhe :D stupid Neon!

What was he thinking ??? :haha: The guy kept driving best he could but it was a -- neon --
Just thought it was funny.

:bna hehe....dude you crack me up! Seeeee....the Neon is a POS...not only that but crystler isn't making cars as good as they used to...not since diemler took them over...Well...they make one good vehicle....a jeep...I'm a proud owner of one of their Rubicons...the only one worth owning IMO...

TwinSvts the reason Motor Trend used a five-door SVT Focus was because they were using equally equipped vehicles. It's not fair to use a three-door hatchback against the four-door sedans. All three players are cross-shopped in the market segment by potential buyers. The ideal Focus would have the power of the Neon with the chassis of the MazdaSpeed Protege.:)
