Dear John Coletti,

I have an offer to make.

I noticed with interest the picture of a non-Ford car that is purported to be yours. The picture is in the November 3, 2002 issue of AutoWeek (last page, lower right). The car sports a "I'd Rather Be Driving A GT40" bumper sticker.

I recognize that sticker because I have one on my car also. I got the sticker at Living Legends tour this summer. The sticker has graced my car since the last two MKM open road races of 2002. In my rookie year, I lucked into winning the Grand Touring division of the American Open Road Racing series (www.openroadracing.com). I won the series driving my 2001 SVT Mustang Cobra. My prize for winning the race is a free entry next year.

Since we both would rather be driving a Ford GT, I suggest we team up. I will bring my free race credit (about $500), and you bring a Ford GT. I know that Ford GT's will be in short supply, but hear you have some connections.

If it turns out that you cannot break a Ford GT away from the 100th anniversary celebrations, I will keep an open mind about other cars (maybe even including the one pictured in AutoWeek as a last resort).

Please let me know!
Neil Berry

Open Letter to All (including John):
========================
Just announced by MKM (www.openroadracing.com) is a novice discount of $50/$50 for novice and sponser (see text below). I would be quite happy to join with any SVTOA member to for this program. In the unlikely event that more than 10 rookies want to attend; then I can think of many good Ford racers that can handle the extras.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The 2003 Event Fees are the same as 2002 -- no increases! However, there have been a couple of changes to the Discounts. First, the First-timer and 2-race discount (for the Pony Express and Gambler's Run) are no longer available. BUT, they have been replaced with a "Bring-A-Rookie" discount: Every 2002 MKM member that brings a new rallyer to any of our 2003 events will earn a $50 discount PER ROOKIE, and each rookie they bring will ALSO get a $50 discount on their entry fees as well.

The article I wrote about my Open Road Racing experiences is published in the Nov/Dec Vol 5 Issue 5 of the "Enthusiast" on pages 14-17.

This magazine features the GT40 concept on the cover. While I have warmed to the idea using my stock 2002 Lightning for next year; I would still love to team up with John Coletti (and his "GT").

Still, should John Coletti not want ME to be on the team in exchange for a free entry in the race; he can still get a $50 rookie discount by listing me as a sponser .

I think this is the bumber sticker you where talking about?

Ford has Ferrari in its cross hairs again. Early this year, Coletti went to company controller Don Leclair to get special dispensation to purchase a red $150,000 Ferrari 360 Modena to use for comparisons. The Ford GT team wasted no time nicknaming the curvacious sports car "The Victim" and plastering it with a "I'd rather be driving a Ford GT" bumper sticker.

Posted the whole article on the Eastern ontario Section

I am pleased to hear from Ford that my 2001 SVT Cobra has been chosen for the 100th display area. This is just neat!

I have gotten offers of limit sponsorship for next year's race. However, I am still hoping that I will find a ride in a GT40 or Ford "GT". I will need to start making preparations soon. My current fallback plan is to prepare my 2002 Lightning for Grand Toruing. I would prefer to attend with something cooler/faster.

The upcoming OpenRoadRace in Nevada (Bonneville 100) needs a team leader for Team Mustang. See www.openroadracing.com
The Bonneville event is the weekend after the Ford 100th, so I will be driving from one the other.

I am expecting take my Lightning, so I am not a good candidate for team Mustang (though Team SVT might work for me).

Are there any OpenRoad guys that can step up to lead Team Mustang?

I was a greedy ******* and grabbed a few bumper stickers when the Living Legends Tour was at Fun Ford Weekend last year.

PM a address and I'll put one in the mail for you.

Apparently, my 2002 Lightning, Rodney Armstrong's 1998 Cobra and Dave Deidrich's 2003 Cobra performed well in the 2003 Bonneville 100. A first and a second place may have been taken.

It would be nice to see one of these at a race.

...if so, make the cut for the Doral Open. Rumor has it Ford will award the winner a new GT, along with the requisite cash.

Just what Tiger needs...more cars & cash...

I am going to attend the Big Bend Open Road event in Texas this April 24th (www.bborr.com).

I will be taking my Lightning.

TEAM MUSTANG is being headed by Rodney A. (see bborr team challenge links). The Corvette guys have the mustang team GREATLY outnumbered.

Give some thought to attending and joining TEAM MUSTANG (I think team membership is free, but I'm not sure).

Rookie drivers need to attend driver training (wednesday-thursday).

I have a harness-harness bar setup for late model Cobras/Mustangs, but you would need to see me here in Ohio before I leave

Anybody going to enter the 2004 Gamblers Run (www.openroadracing.com) August 19-22, 2004 with any FORD product??
