First post here...have been interested in the Lightning for some time. Started checking dealer inventory in the Cincinnati area and found 40 2003 Lightnings in stock! First dealer I called offered a price of just under $29,000. Anyone have any idea as to what is happening? Are the '04s going to have the rumored 500 hp engine? Is the market saturated? I had a '99 SVT Cobra and sold it about 18 months later for a good price. I guess that I am concerned about taking a big hit on the Lightning and not being able to sell it later (I trade cars almost every year...it's a sickness that I have had to live with!).

Not sure about 40 Lightnings in stock or whatnot...a dealership here quoted having 25, but 20 of them ended up being simply regular cab step sides with the upgraded painted front bumper and a non-sc'd 5.4L...just to get people in the door I guess. From what I understand, the 2004 Lightning will not even be the new bodystyle, but will be sold along side the new body as a carryover, there will also be a carryover bodystyle called the Heritage edition. The silver concept vehicle with those hideous mustard yellow seats is rumored not to be available untill at least 2005, and Ive even heard 2006.

You can go to the Ford SVT site and search dealer inventory under 45242 and you will see 40 spread among 8 dealers all in the Cincinnati area. Did you pay full sticker for yours?

The hideous yellow seats are going to be a light tan.The yellow doesn't look nearly as bad in person though.
29,000 for brand new L' sounds like a good deal. I am still in the dark about 04 except the next gen will not be ready yet.

I got my 01 for 27,270.
As far as Lightnings being in stock, last i heard, the 2 dealerships near by have like 7 03's left in stock between the two of them. They started out with like 20 each. I guess it depends on the region. There is an SVT dealer up in Michigan where my girlfriend's granfather lives that has sold only 2 Lightnings of it's 10 truck stock so far. But that is farm land where trucks are put to work. While the Lightning is capable of doing truck stuff, it's not suited for serious work duty.
Out here on the EC in NJ, the Lightnings don't last too long on the lots typically. But alot of people don't use them as trucks. I think I'm one of the exceptions. Mine sees real work more often than it doesn't.

I just bought my Lightning today. I got a sweet deal on it 29,500. I thought I would have a hard time bringing the price down, but I guess they want to give them away at this price
