During the last forum some of you more northern brothers mentioned how to set up for winter. With our first flurries today, I had better revisit the subject. Someone mentioned a 16 in rim and I need tire sizes that will still keep everything about equal. Thanks for your help. I would love to garage it all winter..but walking really sucks after driving may L:haha:

My snow tires are the same size as the spare tire. Its like a 265/70/16 I believe. I'm not sure on the size but I know the snow tires are teh same size as the spare. It's pouring rain right now so I'm not gonna crawl around in the parking lot to check.

Where is the best deal for a wheel/winter tire combo for a 2002 Lightning?

www.tirerack.com is not helping much for the Lightning, though the Mazda MPV has a couple of matches.

For a real good deal check out your local Junk yards for some ford factory steel rims. Then find you tire.

Around here, it is cheaper to buy a set of AR Wagon Wheels than to get a factory steelie out of the junkyard.
Also, I so rarely see any kind of Ford truck in the junkyards. Chevy and Dodge hulks abound but nary a Ford to be found!
Seriously though, the only Ford's I see are ones that have been totalled and rendered undriveable.
You have to watch also because not all Ford F-150's from 97-up have the right 5 lug bolt pattern or the proper backspacing to clear the brakes. The 99-02 Lightnings also do not have teh same lug nuts or wheel studs and that is also important.

I didn't even think of the wagon Wheels or know about the lug pattern chang. Good points. Good luck, Woody

The F-150 links (above)do not seem to work.

One more thing, if anyone gets aftermarket wheels, you need to get at least a 16 inch wheel to clear the brakes. Unless you want to grind calipers but that is a miserable job and can end up costing you alot of money for a screw up.

I just ordered a winter wheel/tire package from www.tirerack.com ($968.19). I will report on how they work when I get them.

What brand of tire? I have teh Wintermaster Plus tires and they worked great last year. After this year I think I will have to replace them though.
My package that I got last year was just under 600 bucks though. Did you get a set of wheels or just steelies? I got steelies and they are like 50 a piece. I want to paint them black and put on baby moons and trim rings but nobody sells baby moon kits anymore. :(

I don't know what the problem is. I posted these same links in a post I made at the Corral and they work there.
Well, if anyone is still interested in what these posts say, go to http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=191874 and you can access them there.
Sorry 'bout that.

They arrived and work great. The wheels are bit too nice looking for winter abuse.

last pic. The Lightning feels slightly wobbly with these and they spin easier. The snow and ice could be a factor.

I went with the winter duellers too and they do spin reeeeal easy, even on bone-dry pavement.
Gave me more respect for just how nice a tire the stock F1 is on dry pavement.

Hi Woody. The lug pattern did not change. All F-Series trucks went from a 12mm wheel stud to a 14mm wheel stud at the end of the 99 model year. Norfolk (NAP) mid July 99, KC (KCAP) early Aug 99, and Ontario truck (OTP & L's) approx Job 1 of 2000 model year. The reason the changeovers were staggered was the stud supplier couldn't ramp up production on the studs fast enough to accomidate all simultaneously (all 3 plants were on heavy overtime).
Although the Lightning wheel did change for 2001, it was to clear aftermarket (i.e. Brembo) brake calipers, the 99 wheels will fit just fine on any 01/02 Lightning (I know this for a fact, the autocross wheels for my 2002 were my OEM 99 wheels).
Just the facts...I work there :D
