I want to swap my old 4.6 L from my 1997 F-150 with a new 2001 5.4 L.

My questions are:

1. Will the engine bolt to the existing transmission, and will the transmission work with the new engine? ( electronics )

2. Will I need to install a new brain box and will the brain box connect to all of my existing connections in my truck.?

3. Will the wiring harness on the 5.4 L Engine, connect to all of the existing connections on my 97 wiring harness? ex: sensors etc..

4. Does anyone know anybody who has done this before?

My engine has 150000 miles on it, and it runs ok, but I know that the reliability factor is gone. My truck is in excellent condition, and I don't want to get rid of it yet. Although I do take some long distance trips in it, and I sweat everytime hoping that the motor won't give up. I usually carry a load too.

Thanks for the help/advise

I think that the Cobra R runs the 5.4 block. I do not know about the trans. I would think that it would have a different brain box but not sure. You could find an junk Lightning and swap out that way.

PS you might try and get a shop manual on the cars and look at the wiring dia. and other info. that it would give you.

Had another thought. have you post your question on the SCMC website. or just serch their forum to se if any of their members have done such.
Ithink that you would have to change your front spings to handle the extra weight.

Never mind I thought you were putting the engine in your Cobra, I guess that I need to learn to read better.
